okay so i'm a little late posting about this but i thought i would share for those who are considering doing a 5K or starting the c25k program.....

i started the C25K program last summer and did it "religiously" for about 10wks....the program is 9wks but i got "stuck" at wks 5 and 6 repeating them over and over as i was toooooo afraid to move on and do more ACTUAL running with less walking...i didnt think i COULD do it.....regardless i signed up for the susan koemen race for the cure last fall - race date was 1/29/11...i figured by then i would officially RUN my first 5K race, i completed the disney 1/2 marathon in 3 1/2hrs in january 2010 by doing run/walk intervals....

so then november thru december i got severe bronchitis and was on 2 batches of antibiotics & then a pack of steroids....i kept working out but i dropped my running to just walking and other cardio at the gym.....

well January 29th rolled around and i was still signed up for the 5K women's run....i decided that i would attempt to run as much as i could and then maybe start training again for another race to RUN later....

sooooo anyway, the crowd was AMAZING...there were all these wonderful beautiful women and girls up at 7am to participate in this incredible cause and i was a part of it...

i turned my runkeeper app on, set up my ipod with my running list in one ear, hit start on my HRM and we were off....remember i was just gonna go as far as i could running and then rest with a walk and then run some more if i could....well, LOL...i ended up running the entire 3.1miles (5K) and completed my first 5K race RUNNING in about 36:25 seconds.....

soooooo now, lol, im actually going to start the C25K program over in march with another MFP friend from a distance and i'm going to work on improving my time and getting over my fear of being a runner.....i can do this and i want to do this so i'm gonna do this again.....

havent signed up for my next race but i will and i can't wait.......thanks for reading and i hope i can inspire JUST ONE person to take a chance and try something you never thought you could do......you can do it, you just have to try....it might not happen the first time, it might not happen the second, but if you keep trying it WILL HAPPEN....

I'm signed up for my first 5K at the end of May. :embarassed: Haven't had any success with C25K the last... oh... 15 or so times I've tried it. But one way or another the 5K will be done...

that is the spirit and the message here...i did not get the actual training in that i wanted to in order to do this race but I DID IT ANYWAY and i did better than i have ever done on any run i have EVER completed.....this is my absolute personal best and i cant even imagine with training that i can do better but of course i am going to try to improve my time anyway LOL....
  • I suggest you start the Bridge to 10K! Congrats on the run. I kinda had the same thing happen to me, and now I'm actually training for a half!
