Non weight bearing cardio?

Hi everyone,

I've damaged a ligament in my knee and am not allowed to bear weight on it. Can any of you suggest some cardio based exercise that does not involve bearing weight on my knee. I'm not allowed to swim, so the obvious suggestion is out!

On the plus side, using crutches to get around seems to be working my core and arms really well. My abs, pecs and upper arms are so sore.

Thanks

Erika

Sitting in a chair and punching is the first thing that comes to my mind.

Most cardio work outs have a lot of upper body movement. Sitting and doing the movements with the upper body will still get your heart rate up. I know Richard Simmons worked with a lady so big she couldn't get out of bed. He had her just start moving her arms, and she was eventually able to regain her mobility. You could even ad in some hand weights to up the intensity.

swimming, water exercises, the water will take away the impact and still offer great workouts, on a plus side cooler water will force the body to burn much more cals than in a warmer environment.
