I recently had some knee surgery and am struggling with increased fat that I cannot seem to get rid of even with my increase in activity level. I am a runner and not used to restricting calories, despite eating really healthy foods. I joined mfp because it looked like a great help but all I see is so much weight loss from other which is really great but I can't seem to participate! I'd like to be back in shape in three weeks. any ideas?

If you're one of the people in the photo, I don't see how you can look any better!
It is hard AND harder for those will a small amount to lose to lose it--mainly because you simply do not have much room to maneuver from the amount that your body must have each day to simply continue operating at the level that you are operating. Does that make sense?
It might be possible that you really don't need to lose so much as tone--build a little muscle and shape what you've got.
It would help if you give us more information, too--how many calories are you eating, how big a deficit a you getting each day, are you eating your exercise calories, etc.0 -
hey shorerider, thanks for responding--sometimes i feel rejected just because i'm not exactly in the same boat as a lot of mfp-ers.
You asked for more specifics--during training I run 25-40 miles per week and eat probably 2500 calories. Currently, i'm trying to stay below 1500 calories. I'm biking every day and running a little bit but keeping up with lots of core strength and lifting. I reworked my goals today and am trying to stay under 1200 but i definitely eat my workout calories and usually go over for protein. I eat every few hours.
I think 1200 will be hard but I really want to do this. Can anyone relate or have tips?0 -
I find eating alot of salad with balsalmic vinegar and dried cranberries is very filling, tastes good and is low in calories.0

First--no way should you be eating 1200 calories. that is too low. most people should not go that "low."
You need to eat more than that--with your level of activity, I'd say you should be getting at least 1600 calories a day or more. You are going to have to aim for a lower level of loss and eat more!
This thread might help---

Also, are you tracking your exercise calories because with that much working out, you definitely need to make sure to eat those exercise calories.
You also should realize that sometimes we want to loss when we really don't need to--like I said, maybe you just need some toning.
Don't feel rejected--there's probably more people on here like you--with a small amount to lose--than like me, who has a lot to lose. I have come to realize that it's just as frustrating trying to lose a little as it is to lose a lot! We each have our own battles and demons we're fighting--so hang in there! You'll find support here!
I've also got to say I envy you your energy level!0 -

Amen! I run 5 days a week. When I went that low (1200) on calories, I stopped losing. Then, I started gaining. I am now on increased calories (1500) and losing like crazy (just over 2 pounds a week). Be sure to eat those exercise calories too!
best

i am definitely in a similar boat!
i tend to be under my calories on a daily basis lately due to increased exercise and not upping my calories enough.
as hard as it may seem, i think i have finally figured out that at my activity level (1200 exercise cals to eat a day or so depending on the day) i need to actually be eating more than i have been, because ive been at a plateau for weeks at my current level...
stick it out, and hang in here with us, this is the best support i have ever gotten in the battle with weightloss!0 -
okay! thanks.0

I can totally relate. I have to eat every 2-3 hours or I pretty much go insane. I really just want to lose about 10 pounds and/or tone up the belly area...whichever works. I am still trying to figure out how to make it work with the calories etc. Basically I increased my calories to 1600 because I had my metabolism measured...there is no way in hell that I could function on 1200!!! Even though I would stay in my calorie zone, I wasn't seeing any "real" weight loss like other people on the site have. It took me about 3 months before I saw the scale change.
I decided that I should try to focus less on the weight loss and more on the toning. However, I recently had a medical issue, so I can't exercise for a week or 2. So, I'm actually paying close attention to the calorie thing for the time being, just so I don't gain during this time. I still plan on eating my 1600, but will try to stay within that.
Hope that helps!
BTW...I've had 3 knee surgeries...they all sucked. Hope your rehab is going well!0 -
Me too! just had my third knee surgery in order to have my fourth in december... so i'm trying to train for chicago marathon which is in october so I don't feel totally useless until that point!!0
