Too much water?

How much water are you guys out there drinking on average per day? I'm curious because I have always been a big water drinker...not big on soda (haven't had one in a long time) but occasionally unsweetened iced tea...but was recently told that I drink too much water and that it may be a problem.
I am having it officially checked out to make sure but in the mean time am just curious about what other people average.
On a normal day, I drink about 2 gallons of water a day (approx. 8 32 oz. cups). And nope, I'm not diabetic.

2 gallons is a lot, unless you are in the desert.
Did you always drink that much?
As an RN, my antenna goes up a bit for the "other diabetes", namely diabetes insipidus, which is an imbalance of pituitary and adrenal hormones. A regular physician should be able to pick up the signs, otherwise an endocrinologist will.0 -
I'm a big believer in needing more water than the 8 - 8oz glasses that's recommended a day. But that does sound like a lot to me. I don't know if it's problematic though. The thing that makes sense to me is the "drink half your body weight's pounds, in ounces" theory of what we each need.
100# person would drink 50oz
150# person would drink 75oz
200# person would drink 100oz
...you get the idea.0 -
I drink at least 9 glasses a day (72oz). On days I work out it's usually 12-15 (96-120oz). The other day I had 18 (144oz).
2 gallons does seem like it's too much, you might want to cut back a little.0 -
Yes, I always drank roughly that much and it was only brought up recently though in a casual discussion with my mom who was shocked and said I should go to the doc. Have since gone to the doc and she was very dismissive...so I think I may be looking for a second opinion...did have blood tests done and came back with high creatinine serum level so may be looking into that a little more too.0

I drink about 140 - 160 oz a day but I also weigh over 300 lbs and live in the desert. I think that is a lot but we are all different. Hope it goes well with your doctor.0

People with certain medical conditions can become intoxicated by water. It is very dangerous. However, unless you have a medical condition, I would think if you are thirsty, drink, if you aren't, don't.
Being really thirsty all the time can be a sign of medical conditions such as diabetes also.0 -
I drink 10 to 12 glasses a day ... when I drink more I tend to dilute my potassium levels too much and it tends to cause irregular heart beats for me ... so doc says watch my water intake and up my potassium intake0
