Ok so I'm new to this site & just recently decided that it was time for me to lose some weight. I've always wanted to but just never had enough motivation, but now looking back at pics from my teenage yrs before i got pregnant & the way i look now...well i think thats motivation enough! I'm 21 yrs old, 4'11 & about 155 lbs. Before i had kids i was at 105 lbs...so yea big difference :noway: So I'm hoping to get down to at least 110 lbs & since i'm short, I think thats the appropriate weight for me. Ok so I think my main problem is my belly because I think if you see my face you might not imagine that I was overweight. I'm a bit concerned though that it's going to be difficult to lose that flab though on my stomach lol. Of course having kids didnt quite leave my belly looking pretty lol. So i guess my question to you guys would be...what's the best way to get rid of the belly?? I know of course healthy diet & exercise, but what exercises are best to target the belly quick? I really want to slim down to a size 3 at least & now I'm at a size 11. So any advice would be great! Thank you so much! Seeing the success stories on here are real inspirational & motivating so I'm hoping this will work for me as it has for you all!

  • Sorry Roxystar, you can't target specific areas... Trust me... just stick to MFP and start some exercise regime, and it will all start falling off - equally. Start with gentle exercise to break yourself in, once your ready... i highly recommend getting into interval training... i lost loads.

There is no good way to target weight loss in any one area. I found that some of the belly flab after pregnancy was loose muscle that just needs to be tightened up. It is also true that some people just store fat in different locations than others. What worked for me was to stick to the food diary calorie amounts, log everything (even if it is just a bite) and do cardio exercises. I do strength training a couple times a week now but that is more for the toning look.

Good Luck and enjoy your journey.

i have the same problem...became extremely over weight fro pregnancy....i was pregnant back to back with my firs 2 kids and in a matter of 18 months i gained over 100lbs!!!! and most of my weight gain has been in my stomach and butt. about 2 years i had lost 70lbs and my stomach became flatter....the thing that helped a lot was that i stop drinking any types of soda and drank plenty of water and lipton citrus diet ice tea. on top of that i took zumba classes...found that to help with the tummy flabbyness. and also...i watched my sugar intake...the more refined sugar u eat the more prone you are to increase your belly size.
  • Welcome, I am new as well. Today is day 7 of tracking my calories & day 4 of excercising. I too do not have a ton to loose. Only about 20 lbs. I am 25 and a mother of 2 boys...I have the same problem with the belly (2 C-sections later, it is nothing pretty either lol) I track my calories and have started the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred video(You can get it for about $9 at Wal-Mart) and LOVE it, especially since it is only a 20 minute workout... She does cardio and strength. You will work more out in the 20 minutes with her than you ever have at the gym lol. Good luck on your journey!

  • To lose your belly you have to lose body fat and that means it will come off everywhere. You can't lose in just one spot. To lose body fat you have to gain muscle.

    Gain Muscle to Burn Fat
When losing weight, the way to lose just fat is by adding strength training into your fitness program. Don't try to lose weight simply by performing cardio. The pounds you lose through cardio will come right back if you stop the cardio, without muscle mass to keep the weight off. Don't worry about bulking up or gaining too much muscle. For the majority of the population, it's simply not a concern. When you add muscle, you improve the body fat composition ratio, which is the main goal.

Thank you both so much! I'm glad to see that yall have reached (or just about reached) your goal weight! It is people like you that inspire me to go for mine  Well i have been trying to eat healthy lately but I guess it just takes some getting used to...with counting calories & all, but I think I can do it. I've also been trying to exercise but I dont think I've been doing much cardio so I'll try to focus on that. & I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but what exactly is interval training?

You can not target weight loss in one place but you can tone in one specific place. If you have a Wii there are lots of things you can do on there.
  • I had 3 c-sects....I have to say that when having kids your skin is stretched as well as your muscles. The younger you are the more likely your stomach will get back to normal, but not always. Once it's stretched, muscles included leaves you with a pooch. The only option is to have the excess skin removed. (mini tummy tuck) Sometimes the muscles need to be brought back together just depending on how far apart they are. (full tummy tuck would fix that)

The reason that being said is because I've had my body fat % below the lean stage and I still had a pooch. I weighed 108 lbs at 5'3". The doc told me that it's just excess skin.
    I hope that helps.

Thanks to the rest of you as well  I'm definetly going to take all of your advice...anything helps! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there with this problem. I too have been trying to eliminate soda altogether. Within the past two wks I can say I've only had 2 sodas, but I'm working on it. Thanks for all the advice, I really do appreciate it!

Thanks for the advice! It really does help. I do have the pooch & I'm hoping with weight loss i can stretch it out but we'll see how that turns out. Thanks again!

I do not have a wii but I have an xbox kinect & I was actually looking at some workout/fitness games yesterday. I think I did see one of Jillian Michaels but I will indeed have to try the 30 day shred. I'm willing to give it all a try to reach my goal weight.
  • Check out WWW.maxworkouts.com I bought his workouts, they are tough, but the results are amazing.
