Hey all,

So I was reading another thread about fat loss needing to be accompanied by resistance training in order to build muscle which burns fat. Last month, we bought a cross trainer and I was wondering if the more experienced among MFP would consider this to be cardio, resistance, or both? I use it on a high resistance, get my legs burning and heart rate up.

Good point. I always just look at it as cardio even though my legs are burning too, due to just exercising my legs on it without holding onto the bars...I just have a very short arms and holding onto it makes me kind of bounce on it and that is not great, lol

It's cardio. Yes, you can increase the resistance setting but you are only building the bype 1 slow twitch muscle fibers which are more aerobic. Resistance training as you are looking for requires weights to over load the type 2 fast twitch muscle fibers.
