Resting/Active Heartrate

I'm not sure if I've seen this question answered anywhere, so I figured I'd go ahead and ask. I'm a few days into exercising with my new HRM (Polar F6, absolutely love it) and I know for sure that my heart rate has to be above ideal. Problem is I just don't know how far. Anyone know what the "normal" range for heart rate is?
Is measuring it similar to other things, where there is are ranges that are dangerous to be in? I remember vaguely the elliptical at the gym yelling at me if my heart rate went over 200. I'd like to have a healthy goal to shoot for.

I believe the max your heart rate should EVER reach while exercising is: 220-age0 -

this depends on what you are aiming for. Your max HR is 220-age
Target zone for fat buring is 60-70% of your max. approx 85% calories burned are from fat
aerobic zone (endurance training) is70-80% of max. More calories are burned and Approx 50% calories are burned from fat
And anaerobic at 80-90% of your max wich is good for building up resistance to fatique and building your VO2max (which is the max amount of O2 you can use while exercising). Most calories are burned in this range but only about 15% from fat.0 -
Here's what I've read after researching:
Calculate your target heart-rate zone by subtracting your age from 220 to get your maximum heart rate, and then multiplying that number by 0.7 (for the lower end of your target range) and by 0.85 (for the upper end). For example, if you are 35 years old, the maximum heart rate would be 185 beats per minute, and the range during excercise is 130-157 beats per minute.
Those numbers are approximate; individual targets might vary. Hope that helps.0
