Daily Weight Loss Patterns

Good morning,

I switched to daily weigh ins a couple months ago, for a couple of reasons. One being that I found myself more accountable when my weigh in was always the next day. Also, whether if I'm bummed because I gain or psyched cause I lose it's just for one day. Each day becomes it's own little goal of sticking with my calories and exercise plan. And if the scale doesn't look the way I want it to, I can move on cause tomorrow's a new day. And while I only plug my weight into MFP once a week, I keep a separate spreadsheet with my daily numbers. Which is my other reason for doing this. I like numbers. I like seeing how what I do one day affects the next day's outcome.
With that in mind, I've noticed an interesting trend I just wanted to share. It kinda illustrates how fickle our bodies are and how much weight loss is affected by changes in muscle growth and water retention.
My daily weight loss has followed a steady pattern based on my exercise. Keep in mind I aim to eat my exercise calories and stay within 100 calories of my net calories for the day.

Monday night I do Zumba w/high calorie burn: down about 0.5 lbs the next morning
Tuesday night I do kick boxing w/high calorie burn: down another 1 - 1.5lbs the next morning
Wednesday night I do some incline work on the treadmill + pilates: up about 1 lb the next morning
Thursday I do a spin class: up or down about 0.25 lb the next morning
Friday is almost always an off day: down 2-3 lbs the next morning
Saturday is a weights class: up 1 - 2 lbs the next morning
Sunday is an off day: up about 0.5 - 1 lbs the next morning

So you gain following strength training days. It's my understanding that's water weight you pick up as part of your body's effort to recover from the exercise - maybe a little muscle too, and glycogen, but mostly water. It's temporary.

I do my strength training on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and recently switched my weigh-in morning from Friday to Monday to take advantage of the two consecutive days off over the weekend.

So strength training makes you retain water, and off days that water weight goes away? I'm so over this whole water weight thing!
