Hey everyone!! I just want to say I have only been on here since the weekend, but already feel extremely welcome and focused!
I keep hearing all this talk about everyone weighing in so much, and was wondering what you are all using? I honestly have a $5 scale from Walmart.. and I am thinking its not going to help!!
Sometimes pending on where I have moved it, the ground reads it differently
I would like to invest a bit more on something I am going to want to use more of!
Sooo, that being said... does anyone have the scale and fat analyer one? I was curious about them, but of course they are the most expensive and want to know if its worth it!
Are digitals better? or the original kind?
What do you guys think?

First off, the body fat scales are not that accurate, so don't waste your money. If you want to do body fat, buy a body fat calibrator (those little plastic/metal fat pinch things).

Most digital scales now need to be calibrated before a weigh (in case they have been bumped/moved since the last weigh). All this means is that you tap it and it calibrates itself.

I'm a member of consumer reports, but they didn't have a scale test - they should! - so I can't recommend one over another. Mine seems to work fine though - it's a Taylor digital.

I would get one that goes to 1/8 of a pound (135.6 for example) - but please realize that weight fluctuates quite a bit and success is measured in weeks and months, not days. The 1/8 of a pound part is good for the last few pounds that tend to come off very reluctantly.

I wouldn't spend more than $30-40 (mine was $25 from Amazon). Also buy a tape measure - sometimes it's good to see more than one type of success.

Some useful info about scales and body composition measurements in this thread:

I use the one at the gym. Home scales scare me. I know the one at the gym is checked and they have the weights and measure people come out and certify it.
  • I too have the Weight Watchers scale just like Rissa's roomy. If her roomy has the same scale that I have, you have to initally tap it anyway so that the scale turns on for you. So with that being siad...if that's how you are supposed to calibrate it as MaryWillDiet said, the scale is being callibrated everyday or however often someone weighs in. I love my scale, I bought it almost two years ago. I like it because there are are four different user's weight that can be tracked be the scale. It's pretty neat. It remember's your intial weight and tells you how much you've lost since your last weigh in. It even gives you a goal depending on your weight and tells you how many lbs you have until you reach it.

My Man in an effort to "HELP" me in my weight loss, bought an expensive digital scale. When we first tried it out it would read different each time you got on it. By this I mean you would step on, it would read 180, you would step off, step back on and it would read 175. After playing around with it for a bit, he put it on a plank of wood. Press board, a little bit bigger than the scale itself. I do not know why but now it works fine. Which is great, but I was LOVING the 2 second 5 lb weight loss.

I weigh myself several times a day. Watching the two , three, or four pound change throughout the day keeps it interesting, and also reminds not to obsess, its mostly water. My weight changes before and after taking a shower. That number this morning is not "my weight", and certainly is not me.

I chart my weight against the nutrion reports, and notice that for three days after a "high sodium" day, my weight levels off. I drink lots of water to flush out the sodium. Then, its quickly back down, and back to my 1 1/4 pounds per week rate, with no real loss in progress.

This is my first time ever trying to lose weight, and so far (12 pounds) very succesful. I know that if I had have been watching the scales for years, this would not be the fun "science project" that I make it to be.
  • so naja.. u are saying that i just have to tap it to get it ready?? i mean i love that it says i weigh 115 but lets be real... when will i know its right?!?
