If you are completely honest, which of these would be the main reason for your new lifestyle?

Mine is 80% vanity, 20% health

I started out with probably 95% vanity, 5% health. But as I've slimmed down and toned up, I'm getting addicted to the extra energy and strength -- so I'm thinking 50%/50% at this point.

That being said...with only a few pounds left, I guess I'm healthy enough! So let's say I want to stay in this REALM of fitness for 50% health, 50% vanity, but the only reason I'd really "need" to lose more than I have is for vanity! =D

    (Confused yet? I am.)

Completely, honest.....probably the same. I am so aware of my weight in social situations, I hate to shop for clothes, and I hate to have my picture taken for fear of what I will see. I want to look in the mirror and like what I see, instead of avoiding the mirror.

I'd be about 50-50... and depends on the day. LOL For example, right now, it's health health health. Come swimsuit season, it'll be vanity vanity vanity.

At least 90% vanity, lol! The health benefits are great but wanting to look good in a swimsuit was more motivating! (how bad is that?)

When I first started a month ago I would have said 90% vanity 10% health...Then yet another member of my family died before 60 and it really flipped a light switch... Now its 10% vanity 90% Health

80% health 20% vanity... If I didn't have so many food allergies, I probably wouldn't be this healthy. : /

yeah I have noticed the fitter and better I feel it has definately shifted the balance to slightly more health, the more I learn by using this site is also great. I think at the beginging it was 100% vanity if im totally honest, I sat there and thought man I look big I need to lose weight, The health side is defo on the up though.

I'd say 90% health/10% vanity. The ratios were probably completely reversed in my 20s and 30s, but the older I get (and after losing my dad), the more important health is the less important my appearance is. When you hit 50, you have to have a certain amount of self-acceptance and a better sense of humor than you did at a younger age just to cope. The irony is that I weigh less and am more fit now than I was in my 20s and 30s. If I'd been thinking more about my health then, I could have had it all! Now I'm 50, healthy, fit, relatively lean, AND I have wrinkles, gray hair, and saggy skin. Oh well whatcha gonna do?

Mine is still 100% vanity :( One day it will change, I'm sure, but I'm not even quite 1/4 of the way done yet. I like that the shred doesn't kill me, and I don't mind vegetables.
  • Every diet I've ever been on has been 100% vanity before, and that motivation was never enough to carry me. I also agree that getting older changes motivations. In my 20's and 30's, was more concerned about looking "hot". Now I'm all about healthy, and learning new cooking ideas...

    97% Vanity 3% Health!

I am (knocks on wood) a healthy person, I seldom get sick (though I have nasty seasonal allergies) my blood pressure is low, cholesterol is good no real issues. I am thankful for that. I will be turning 40 this year and my youngest child is 2. I don't want to be mistaken for her grandmother when she goes to kindergarten in a few years. I do feel better when I am at a more comfortable weight for me. That being said I want to be around for a good long while and be able to do things with my children, like hiking or skating or whatever else comes up. My mom has been overweight for as long as I can remember and NEVER did anything with me.

I would say that mine is 90% Vanity 10% health.

I'm a pretty healthy person as it is. I have no need to lower anything, BUT things do run in my family and that's where the 10% comes in, I know that if I continue to gain that I will be in that same position and I don't want that.

but 90% has always been vanity. I want to look good. I'm tired of my tummy sticking out, my huge hips. I want to fit into all the cute clothes I find. I want to go to the beach and walk around in a bikini for once in my life.

Most of it is vanity, and that's what most of my goals are to keep me moving forward. honestly, if I told myself a mini goal that had something to do with the health, I wouldnt make it. I love the energy and happier attitude I have, but I want to be able to see it!

I'll admit, I'm a bit vain sometimes. haha.

That's probably bad, but oh well. Sometimes doing something out of vanity can have other benefits and be good!

I feel like it is almost entirely health but there is probably a little bit of vanity if I am honest and dig a bit deeper. I think vanity may be enough motivation for a small weight loss but I am not so sure about whether it is enough for a larger one.
  • Vanity all the way. Who doesn't want to be happy with how they look?!

Usually, I'd be 100% vanity, but since we might be trying for a baby in 6 months or so, now I've moved to 50% heath and 50% vanity (not wanting to be a "giant" pregnant lady!) ;o)
  • I'm on probably 98% vanity at the moment. I think I'm pretty healthy to be honest, and my extra weight hasn't caused me any problems at all thus far. 2% for just making sure I'm light enough to keep my knees happy (I used to have issues with them)? I'm a terrible person, basically.

I love this question because it's the same conversation I have with myself every morning when I'm trying to get motivated to put everything I have into my exercise routine. Thing is, I'm focusing on being more modest and sprititual these days, so my motivation to look good in a bikini or low rise jeans shouldn't be my main motivation. However, I'm still struggling with that. I don't know how to get motivated if that's not my main goal.
  • Neither.

Pedalling a bike up hill is a whole lot easier if one isn't carrying enough stored energy to pedal from here to Tierra Del Fuego.

6 months ago I would have said 100% health.
(and not so much even about right now but I see what my parent and their friend have gone thru I don't want to be in that state when I'm 80)

But now that I've surpassed the amount of weight my doctor wanted me to lose I wonder If maybe I could lose another, 5 10, 15 pounds? 50 is not too old to be hot is it?

Okay, now I'll say 80% health 20% vanity
