Vegetarian and stuck

Two weeks ago, I decided to go vegetarian allowing some fish. I lost 5 pounds last week, but this week, I seem to be stuck? Am I doing something wrong, or does it slow down like that once your body gets use to it? I'm eating very balanced, and trying to stay away from junk food all together, although this week, I did have a few snacks that aren't strictly diet, but I had the calories for it. Any suggestions? I'm getting close to my protien goals everyday, but I haven't tried using any tofu. I've never had it in a way that I liked. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. And if you want to view my diary, go ahead. Thanks!

Ah, Pescetarianism. I was one for a year!
Try some Boca products! Boca Burgers are delicious; they are soy products.
As far as you not losing this week, just give it some time! Let your body adjust a little more.
See how things go next week!0 -
Five pounds in one week is a lot -- and I almost always stall after a big loss. Think of it this way: you've lost 2.5 pounds per week in the past two weeks! =D0

Definitely watch your sugar, and be careful about how much cheese/dairy you eat. It's easy to get carried away going vegetarian at first because while your body is saying no to meat (which is difficult for some), it's easy to think dairy has protein, it's not off limits! And it's amazing!! But it gets fattening very quickly, if not in moderation. I don't eat dairy (it's been a year, I still miss and long for cheese), but I noticed when I first cut down, and stopped dairy, fat melted right off me. And I agree that Boca products are delicious!! I try not to eat too much of them because they are processed, but when you want quick and EASY protein, they come in handy!0

Whether or not you're eating meat, weight loss is the result of burning more calories than you eat.
So if you are using the tools on this site and stay at or below your calorie goal, you will lose weight, no matter where your calories are coming from (though obviously a nutritious and balanced diet is the goal in order to achieve long-term health!).
That all said, 5 lbs in one week is a lot, and a more sustainable weekly weight loss would be in the 1-2 lb range.0 -
there are many great sources of non meat protien besides tofu! Beans - one of my favorite quick ways to make "cuban" black beans = 2 cans black beans (look for low sodium - hanover is awesome) plus one can rotel. And humus - I make humus sandwiches > rye toast, tribe 40 spices humus + spinach / salad mix > Yum! Soy milk mixes great with whey powder - drink this within 30 mins of your workout and you'll feel the benefits of the protien. Edamame is an awesome snack loaded with all sorts of great stuff including protien. And nuts - I like to throw some beans and nuts on my salads. Portabella mushrooms make a great substitute for meat - they pick up flavors when you grill them and have protein without lots of calories - substitute them for steak or burgers.0

I've been a vegetarian for 4 years (no meat at all-no fish) and I will say that if you've decided to do this diet restriction to lose weight, it wont work. Trust me-I'm a FAT vegetarian. If you really want to do this though, there are SEVERAL amazing products that I love. Morningstar Farms brand (I know Walmart sells them, so does Super Targets and we have HyVee here which has an amazing selection in the Health Food department.) They Chkn Nuggets and Chkn Patty's are delicious and so are the BBQ Riblets. Another amazing option is Quorn Brand. They sell Chkn Fillets that are super yummy. Morningstar Farms also has delicious Sausage Patty's that I eat usually every morning and they have 10gms protein. Almost every vegetarian option has more then enough protein in them to make your daily requirements. I get around 55gms protein daily. I also love getting the Select Harvest soups from Campbell's because they have delicious vegetarian soups that are 50 to 100 calories a serving (2 servings per container.) Good luck to you and if you have any questions I'd love to help you out!0

Thanks for all the advice. I'm not doing it to lose weight. It started because one of my sisters decided to do it, and she still lives at home with Dad, who says its stupid. My other sister and I got on board to support her! LOL Anyway, I'm really liking the lifestyle and want to stick with it, I just want to make sure i'm doing it right.0
