Trying to decide HRM?

I am trying to decide if I should get the Polar FT4 or the FT7 this will be my first HRM and I really know nothing about them so I am learning. I don't plan to buy another one any time soon after this purchase though because it seems they are not cheap to begin with. Does anyone had an FT4 and then went up to the FT7 is it worth it or is the FT4 just as good. Thoughts and ideas anyone?

I just bought the Ft4 and am very happy with it. It does what I need it to do and that's measure my heart rate and tell me how many calories I've burned.
  • I was just thinking about this topic... I haven't looked into HRMs at all, but I am tempted to start the investigation. Hoping others can chime in with advice.
  • I have a Polar FT4, and a Garmin 305 (GPS for outside). What do you want to do workout wise? Are you a techy person? It's my understanding that the FT7 just has more computer bells and whistles, but for my inside workouts all I care bout is time and calories and the FT4 works perfect for that. I got mine on ebay for $84.
  • Would like to know as well. I am looking to buy one today and there are several out there, not sure which are best :)

I have just started working out and trying to lose weight I don't know all the things I should be looking for. But from what I understand I should know how many calories I am burning. I'm not even sure why I need to know what my heart rate is. I'm very clueless about this.

the higher your heart rate the more calories you burn. I think the ft4 is probably adequate for you as well. I don't need all the bells and whistles for computers. I wanted to get an accurate number of calories burned especially during zumba.
