i'm been working my c25k for a while, and i finally completed it. i can jog the entire 5k and i have been working on decreasing my time for the last few weeks. i have been working on a treadmill and an outdoor track. this morning i decided to give it a go in our neighborhood - ouch! way more challenging! i mean, what is the road thinking, having hills in my way?!

so...even though i feel like i have taken about five steps back (i only made it about 2.5 miles or so,and i had to have walking breaks), i feel like it will be good to up the bar a bit. my plan is to do mondays in the neighborhood and wednesdays on the treadmill. does that sound like an okay plan, or should i stick to one or the other? anyone experienced this transition? thanks in advance! :flowerforyou:

    Hi there
You have found out the hard way that running on the treadmill is SOOOOO much easier than running outside. I think you should mix it up as you suggest. Running outside is harder as there are very slight changes in the camber (hills etc) that you wouldn't necessarily have on the treadmill unless you programme them in. Also you have to cope with the environment when running outside - it's amazing how much harder it can be with wind, rain etc. However - outside running is so much more satisfying and a whole lot less boring than the gym/treadmill.................it's also FREE!!!

Best of luck - add me as friend of you want to. I run outside - did 7.5 miles yesterday and only go to the gym when injured or the rain is horizontal!! haha.

my friend did the c25k thing (i'm doing it right now too) he said he started on the treadmill, but when the weather got nice, he started running strictly outdoors. More challenging, but thats really how a 5k is! I would think it would be better to only do the treadmill when u can't do outdoors running (weather issues) I literally just started the c25k thing today, so I'm anxious to get my running on when the weather gets nice! There's just far too much snow in NH (where I live) to even THINK about running outside yet!
