I start week 6 of the Couch to 5K program today, and I hope to run a 5K in May.0

I just ran my first one this past saturday! It's an amazing feeling! If you need any help or motivation send me a friend request! I'm training for my second one ( April 9, 2011) and I am starting the C25K program over again!0

I'm confused ... if you're in 5K shape now, why are you starting over again with the program?0 -
You will do great. They are so much fun0

I'm planning to go through it again to attempt to improve my speed. I'm not so fast thus far.0 -

Still confused. If you're able to jog for 30 minutes right now, why go back to jog 1 min / walk 1 min? See what I mean?
If you're already jogging for 30 minutes at a time, there are other training techniques to improve your pace...!0 -

I'm sure there are, as I am sure there are other plans to get you up to a 5K. But, I like the format of the C25K program. As to 30 minutes vs 1 minute, while I am not to 30 minutes yet I can do 20 minutes at 4.5mph. However, there's no way I can do 20 minutes at 6mph. But, if I start the program over and build myself up again at a faster speed, I think I will succeed.0 -
I love the 5k program! I'm following it now too. I actually got the app for the iphone and it makes it SO much easier! Also, they have a 10k program too for all the 5K grads out there!!0

I'm also doing c25k. Week 4. LOVE IT! Planning to run my first 5k in May! Although, each week is getting progressively tougher, I'm getting nervous that I won't be able to run that 5k. But I'm not giving up yet!0

Aah... I understand now. Well, if you're going by the prompts, and you can already jog 20 @ 4.5mph, you might try jogging intervals -- that is, instead of "walk 1 minute, jog 1 minute", you might try "jog 1 minute @ 4.5, then jog 1 minute @ 6.0"; and then at the 20 minute mark, just go immediately to a walking cool down.
Good Luck!0 -
I run my first 5k in a couple of weeks, and my first 10k in on April 30th.0

I started C25K in the summer last year to prepare for my first 5K (which was at the end of September) and decided to stop it to focus on the distance, not on running the entire time, since I was not getting the distance in. I finished my first 5K with a time of just under 37 minutes (my goal was to be under 45 minutes) which included some walking. I have since completed two additional 5Ks and managed to improve my time on the second but not the third (I was quite under the weather and we were running at midnight on New Year's!!).
It is only within the last two months that I decided to pick up the C25K program again - starting with Week 4. It took me three weeks to complete Week 4, but since then I have been rolling along nicely and right on schedule. I will be doing Week 6 Day 3 tomorrow morning. What I have found this time around is that I have been able to increase my speed on both the walking and jogging intervals (I run on a treadmill with my walks at 4.0mph and my jogs at 5.5-5.7mph). I am hopeful that I will be able to finish the full program so that I can begin to focus on both speed and distance to get down to (and eventually break) 30 minutes.
I will soon be registering for a series of seven different 5Ks that are held in my county each year in the spring, so I am hoping to be able to continue to improve my time and reduce the amount of walking I need to do. Once I have completed the 5K series, my next goal is to complete the Bridge to 10K and start running some longer races.0 -
I'm in on this too!! I just started using MFP and starting trying to run. This is perfect. I just downloaded a C25K app on my phone to help with the intervals.0
