Type 2 Diabetic

Ok, so I am fairly new to MFP,only on my second week. I have lost twenty one pounds since November and I need to lose another 20-30. I set my first weight loss goal at 17 pounds, because I joined a 12 week weight loss challenge through my employer and I thought that would be a reasonable goal for that time period. When I try to eat the calories that MFP has set as a goal for me I feel like its to much(Feeling full and finding diffcult to get them all in).Over the last month I have been able to maintain my current weight but I have not lost either. I walk everyday 30- 40 minutes varing speeds and intensities. On weekends I walk our local preserves which have a lot of up and down hills. I just started this week a resistance band training, not absolutely sure yet if I am doing the exercises right. Starting Zumba next week, should be interesting because I am one of the most uncordinated people in the world. Getting the bicycles out this weekend, also. I guess what I am looking for is advice/ideas from other type two diabetics for food and exercise ideas. I work 10 hour shifts 4 days a week so the simpler the better.
Thanks!
Penny

I just added you, I am also a type 2 diabetic. If you make your food diary public I know there are several people, myself included that would be happy to look at it and give some pointers.0

Ok, Thank you!0

I also have type 2 diabetes. I was not losing much so I set my food diary so people could check it out. They gave me some pointers and the next week I lost almost 2 full pounds. They told me that I was not eating enough and exercising too much. I also was not eating enough fruits and vegetables. (I still strugle with the fruits and vegetables.)0

I think I may be doing the same thing but I am unsure.0

I just took a first glance and First I want to say I am very impressed with your diet in quality, I know it's hard for us to eat right and you seem to be doing a great job from what I see. Second, I think you need to try and eat at least 1200 calories a day and Third, you need more protein for breakfast, if you can supplement that cereal with a protein bar or shake you will get your metabolism fired up in the morning.
Also I noticed you said you have already lost 20 or so pounds, slowing down after that first 20-30 is very typical, the first part melts off then after that it is a slow grind, but it's worth it to be healthy.0 -
Ok, I will definitely look into the protien in the mornings. Do you have any suggestions as to brands or flavors that are really good. I really appreciate the encourgement It hasn't been easy, I was sure a chocoholic in the past.0

Lucky you, most of the bars and shakes these days taste like the real deal, so they make a nice snack too. When they first came out 15 years ago or so they tasted like a mixture of everything in your trashcan.
That being said, I like Atkins bars because the carb and sugar counts are pretty low, same for eat good look great pure protein brand. The EAS advantedge carb control shakes are really low calorie and low carb and have 17 grams of protein. The Zone dark chocolate bars taste fantastic but they are a little higher in the sugar count.0 -
Thank you,
I am at work so I am sending my hubby out to get them now.0 -
I've got such a good hubby . He went right out and got me Atkins Marshmellow mudslide bars. I will try them tomorrow w/ my breakfast.0
