BMR incorrect?

Hello,

New guy to MFP, but have been pretty sticking to it for the past 2-3wks and already see results.. so yay

But my question is:

MFP says my BMR is 3,700, but I'm a bit of a nerd and have been charting myself religiously... calories a day vs daily weight vs previous day's differences.. so far I've had some pretty interesting results

My first week I ate 1700 calories a day, very strictly, on average I lost .8 lbs a day...

.8 x 3500 = 2800 + 1700 = 4500

so has anyone else noticed that their BMR is incorrect?

You are confusing normal daily calories and BMR.

Your calculation below (.8 x 3500 = 2800 + 1700 = 4500) Is suggesting that your BMR should be 4500 instead of 3700, but BMR is NOT what you burn in a day - it is what you burn when you stay in bed and do nothing all day - it's what you burn just living. You burn more than that every day because you get out of bed, brush your teeth, go to school/work (or whatever you do) - even just walking around the house burns more than what you'd burn with BMR.

So, it looks like your normal daily calorie burn has been around 4500, which means your normal daily activities burn 800 calories in addition to your BMR.
