Not sleeping through hunger

Good morning everyone, it has been exactly one week since I started my weight loss journey and have to say so far it has been great. Last night I went to bed but could not sleep because I was hungry, I debated whether I should eat something or not. I sat up until 2am and decided I just had to eat something, so I chose some almonds. This morning I feel really guilty about eating them. Is this hunger normal? Has anybody else experienced not being able to sleep because their tummy is rumbling? My weigh-in is on Saturday and think that this erratic eating will show on the scales. Any tips anyone on how to overcome the hunger at that time of night.

Wishing everyone a good day. xx

I have always had issues with this. Recently I have switched to eating very little through the am and saving calories for the evening time. Now I never go to bed hungry and sleep well.

Yes I have been down that road. I know how frustrating it can be BUT if your hungry then listen to your body! Almonds was a GREAT choice! I usually eat a little before bed so that won't happen. Ususally a Protein source like cottage cheese or string cheese. THis is normal and Dont feel guilty that is not good.

Save a snack for after dinner, like an orange or apple. Then drink some water. Works for me................most of the time.

Just looked at your food. You also may not be eating enought. You want to try and get most of your calories in earlier in the day if you are up and more actice in that time. IF your working out you need to bump them up a 100 or 200 calories

Ive always had issues with this too. I do the exact same thing as 4theking. I have a 100 cal protein bar & water for breakfast, eat a regular lunch with an apple or orange as a snack between lunch & dinner. and then i eat 2 dinners. One at 5 and one at 9. That usually gets me through the night. But if it doesn't for whatever reason, it's usually after midnight when it happens so I just count it on the next days calories and run an extra mile to make up for it

Be carful just eating the fruit unless you eat a protein source with it. It could cause a sugar spike and make you hungry an hour or two after eating it.

I would change your diary lay out to include 3 meals and 3 snacks eating little and often has helped me to curb my hunger I have an evening snack about 8pm after my son has gone to bed normally an options hot chocolate as it fills my tummy right up I have never been hungry going to bed x

Sweetie, you're not eating enough for the exercise you do. No wonder you're hungry. You can't burn 1000 cals with exercise only and another 1200 just by living and eat 1400 and expect to not be hungry. You either need to eat more or exercise less.

Thankyou for all of your answers. Im going to weigh myself today and see if I have lost anything. If I havent then I will leave my calories as they are. If I have then I will bump them up as I seem to exercise quite alot.

I love this site it is so supportive. xx

Another thing to consider is that your body is going to hold on to weight if it thinks you're starving it. If you haven't lost, bump up the calories. Don't keep doing the same thing if it's not working.

Yeh you probably need to save some of your cals for closer to bedtime. I know people sniff at this cos you don't use much energy while asleep but there's nothing worse than not getting enough sleep when it comes to trying to lose the weight..it can ruin the next day's efforts. You might find you need less and less of a late evening top up as time goes on.
I have this problem too & was told it might be because I don't eat big meals, I eat lots of little snacky meals.. so your bod gets used to frequent small food intakes and so can't go a whole 8 hours without! If I don't eat before going to bed I will wake up at 3am starving hungry and can't get back to sleep, so I have to :)

I eat too early and my tummy burns that last hour or two. I need to shift my meals a bit later.

You just gotta find what works best for you. Good luck!
