Traveling Questions

I am going to be traveling for my job in about 3 weeks and I wanted to start planning on what I am going to do to stay on track with my fitness goals. I am flying out every Sunday, coming back every Thursday night and staying at a hotel with a gym and indoor pool/heated spa. I was thinking of bringing a work out dvd with me or using the gym in the hotel. I scouted out some places around the area for food, easiest thing to spot was the grocery store and subway.I just wanted to hear some ideas from others about good ways to exercise in the hotel (I wonder if I will have enough room to pack some weights...hmmm) and some good ways to eat while I am in a place with no kitchen.
All advice and information is much appreciated!

Thanks,
-Nikki

P.S. I will be doing this traveling for about 3 months, then I get relocated to Knoxville, TN

Why pack weights when you have a gym in your hotel??........But the DVD is a good idea to bring if you don't feel like the gym one day.

My sister travels a lot for her job and uses the gyms in the hotels. She also gets out and walks around as much as possible to see the sites.

Resistance band! I usually lift weights, but when I travel (as I will be in April) I pack a resistance band and do lots of squats, lunges, push ups, etc. I also pack all of my breakfasts, morning snacks, and afternoon snacks so I only have to eat out for lunch and dinner. Usually oatmeal for breakfast (can be made with hot water from the coffee maker in the room) and almonds/granola bars for snacks. If the hotel has a contintental breakfast I will grab a piece of fruit for later in the day. I have also been known to pack condensed soup for lunch as that can be used with hot water from the coffee pot as well, but will be high in sodium. I LOVE P90X and I now have that on my laptop so I can always do videos when I am there. You can also use www.livestrong.com to map out some walking/running loops that start and end at your hotel. When I travel I usually run outside quite a bit. I hope this helps and good luck!!!!!!

I wouldn't bother packing weights or DVDs. I'd be too paranoid about leaving them there & losing them. I'd use the hotel gym & pool, or depending where you go & the weather, try to get in some running/walking outside if you can.

I think eating without a kitchen is harder. I'd say to try to keep your meals as similar as possible to what you'd normally eat. Or pack portable foods (nutrition bars, snacks) when possible. For eating out, especially if you're reimbursing expenses, just eat half (or less) of restaurant meals, and don't worry about wasting the other half. If you're not on an expense account, ask if you can have a mini-fridge in your room.

Even if there's no fridge there automatically, I've heard advice that you can say you're on medication that has to stay refrigerated. I've never done this and don't know if you're comfortable with a little white lie or not, but it might help you stay on track to have a fridge in your room.

    good luck. :)

If you are working in knoxville, there are tons of things to do there. Check out the Knox Tenn website for parks. Just watch out for that killer elephant....

I've done lots of work in and around knoxville.
