Different scales, different weight, same day.....

I weighed myself this morning and was very excited to see I've lost 6lbs in July. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Then when I got to work we did our monthly weigh in for the contest we're having and it showed I only lost 1lb. :sad: :sad: :sad: I hadn't ate yet, I waited until after the weigh-in. I drank some water, that's it!! :noway: What's up with that???? I got a good scale at home, good brand name (forgot what it was but its the one you see in doctor's offices) Which weight do I go by? There is no way I gained 5lbs in 2 hours???????????:noway: :grumble: :noway: :grumble: :explode: :mad:

unless you were really dead set on being the one to win the competition...I'd go with the one you use most frequently. Every scale will read something a bit differently. and the automatic ones sometimes read way off from the tall skinny ones they use at the doctors office.
I'm always depressed when i weigh at home before the doctors office and am proud of my weight loss, only to weigh 6-8 lbs (after lunch/clothes on) more. Tell me about it!! I was so excited I reached the goal I wanted to reach before my trip to see my family in Ohio. I use the one that read lower most often. So yeah, ummmm I'll go with that :bigsmile: The one I use at home is just a digital scale but it is the "brand" they use at the doctor's offices. Oh well I'll keep going with what I have at home, I weigh myself every week, sometimes more :laugh: And even if the numbers are a bit off I doubt the loss itself is actually off, right? I hope so. Maybe there is someone who can explain the 'scale thing' difference and why this happens. But throughout the years I have learned that there is generally a 5 to 6 lb difference between any high quality scales that are regularly calibrated and any of the home scales that I have had.
I know it is frustrating ! What I hate [and I don't know if anyone else has experienced this] with the digital scales is that if one moves the scale around to different places in a room your weight can vary up to 10 lbs depending on where in the room you weigh. I know it is weird but it is true - must be scale gremlins! The knack is to find the place in the room where I weigh less !!! <grin>0 -
best thing you can do is take an actual weight like a dumbell or a plate from a barbell that says how much it weighs on it.. like 5lbs, 10lbs..etc and put in onyour scale. if your scale says that the weight weights 6lbs and its a 5lb weight, you know your scale weights heavy by 1lb and then you can adjust your weight when you step on. thats probalby the best you can do. every scale is going to be calibrated differently so try to use the same one each time and just go by that, its not about the actual number, but whether or not its moving up or down!!

Never thought of that :bigsmile: I'll put the dumbbell on it when I get home from work :bigsmile: I mean the number went down 6lbs from the beginning of the month on the one at home but on the one at work it only went down 1lb from the beginning of the month. That's the part that really confused me. Maybe its the time that I did it. I weighed myself at home first thing in the morning after I walked the dog and showered and then drove to work, drank some water and then 2 hours later at work I weighed in only showing a 1lb loss for the month:grumble: . I don't know I'll wait til next week and weigh myself again...And I'll just take the loss...:bigsmile: :laugh: :bigsmile: :laugh: :bigsmile: :laugh: I've worked very hard for it, stuck to the calories, carbs, fat, protein, and added a lot more exercise (cardio and strength training) in and I notice differences.
