Better do this properly!

Hi guys! When I first signed up on this forum, I introduced myself on someone elses thread by accident (derp), so I figured I better do it properly this time

So hi! I'm Jessica, newly eighteen. Still in school (only a few months left however!) and looking to take a gap year after its over so I can get some work experience before going to Uni in 2012

Basically I joined MFP because I'm sick of being overweight. I started my new healthy eating plan in early January and have so far lost 13lbs - my aim is to get down to 154 so I have 33lbs to go (eep!). I don't know if this is the same for many of you, but I've been overweight my whole life - always the 'fat one' in my group of friends, occasionally getting called names for being fat etc ever since I started school. I can't remember ever being slim, its kinda sad really! It's caused my self esteem to be veeery low, I hate being in crowds, meeting new people terrifies me, trying new things scares me, all because I have no self confidence - I always think that people are going to judge me for my weight, so its putting a dampner on my whole life! I have prom coming up in June so I'd really love to fit into a size 12 dress (size 16 at the moment) and just feel confident for once!

I've lurked for a few weeks just reading threads and whatnot, and everyone seems really nice! It's sometimes difficult to find that on the interwebz, so I'm happy to be here :flowerforyou:

PS. Sorry for the long post! I have a tendency to ramble at times...

No worries about the long intro! I don't see anyone complaining. :-)

I'm with you on this. I was always the overweight one, among my friends. Still am, in fact, but I'm working on that! I have no recollection of every buying pants smaller than a 14 (thinking back to around middle school). I can't wait to finally buy my first 12's!

Good luck on your journey! It really helps to be surrounded by such great people. Feel free to add me if you're looking for a friend.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!! :flowerforyou:

@amberfoley: Sure, add away! Any extra support would be great and I'm happy to give it back

@kbeatty1015: Haha, I'm a prone lurker! Any new site I come across, I lurk for at LEAST a week or so  Nice to meet you!

@Trishkit: Nice to hear from someone that's been in the same boat. I can't remember buying below a size 14 either! I think I might actually cry when I get to that moment xD I've gotta admit, going on a shopping spree when I reach my goal is what I'm looking forward to the most!

@bph218: Thanks for the welcome and I agree, everyone is so friendly here, I love it  Nice to meet you!

@kvr414: Wow, thank you! It's really inspiring to hear from someone who's been at the same weight and lost the same amount I'm trying to! It's given me an extra motivation boost  I really think the reason I've been able to stick it out so far is thanks to MFP and I'm really looking forward to reaching my goal. Nice meeting you!
