I took a physical and did a full workup before I started this lifestyle change last week. I have been hitting my goals on calories and exercise and I have been 100% focused and getting results.

I got the results back from the blood work and I have high cholesterol. The doctor is putting me on medication. I am really taking this hard. I really let myself go and I fear that I let myself go in the wrong direction too long. I am going to continue to fight but I am now on blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. I guess this is the result of abusing food and being obese my whole life.

I have lost 17 lbs since Jan so I am doing really well and responding. I face a wedding anniversary, traveling for work and my wife's birthday party this week so I have a huge challenge ahead of me this week on top of this bad news. I know many of you might think I might be making a big deal out of this but I took this news pretty hard and have been down all day. I knew I wasn't healthy but when a doctor slaps medication on you reality sets in on all the bad behaviors catching up.

Off to the airport and thanks to anyone who read this and took time out their day to do so.

I can understand why it's upsetting.

But as you said, you are doing what you can to make healthier choices now and seeing good success with that! Perhaps if you keep on making positive choices, you may be able to safely discontinue one or both of the medications down the line (obviously with doctor's advice).

There's nothing that can be done about choices made yesterday or earlier. You can only make good choices today--and you are!

Please keep in mind that you are on the right track and high cholesterol is reversible. Do what you have to do now with the belief that it is only a temporary setback.

Take one day at a time with your challenges and think about how great you will feel when you kick those meds!!

    Hang in there!!

I agree with Atlantique and pammbroo. Your past choices would only matter if you didn't learn from them. You have and now have an opportunity to right those choices.

Keep at it. Sounds like you're off to a great start. Focus on that.

    Good luck!

What lovely advice! It is so true that you can't do anything about past choices/life style, but you are going great today parkbear - so keep on that road! I am on blood pressure medication myself and have high cholesterol but I am seeing my doctor in two days to check if I can go on lower medication dose. I am confident that I will because I have been exercising and eating healthy. I am sure that you will eventually be able to reverse the "damage" you have done to your body - no time like the present!

Keep at it. When I went last year for physical my doctor told me if I keep going I will probably have diabetes and have to be on heart/cholesterol drugs. Since then I went back to the dr a year later AND I lost 10 lbs. My total cholesterol down from 223 to 204! LDL from 154 to 144 HDL went up 42 to 45 and Trig. from 121 to 91. I did just small changes little by little as the year went by OH and glucose at 99 (I think it was 120 last year).

All that and I wasn't really trying just making small changes. This year I started exercising too. I started here in January and wish I would of found this place last year. Dr seem to try to push drugs drugs and more drugs. Hang in there and keep moving along.
