Hi all

I've posted on here about being gluten intolerant before - however over the past month my stomach has been increasingly bad. Every time I eat I have to make a mad dash to the loo, have chronic diarrhoea and stomach pain - it's getting me very worried and down. I just wondered if anyone has experienced this and what it could be. I'm afraid it's something nasty!

Sounds like it could be IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) or colitis
I recommend going to see a doctor about these issues.

Not sure if you been filling your diary out properly but if you are only eating the amount that shows it can cause stomach problems like you are getting. A while back i was eating about 700- 900 calories a day and it made me very bad, exactly the same as you described and i went to the drs they told me because of the lack off food it upsets all your stomach acids which will cause upset tummy and cramps etc. It took me about a month of eating properly before it stopped.

Have you been tested for Celiac's disease?

Not formally - but that makes my symptoms much much worse. I'm only eating a little not for weight loss but through necessity via these symptoms. The more I eat the worse it is... it's horrendous. I know it's not IBS as I've been to the doc's countless times and this has been dismissed. Not entirely sure what colitis is though! :( Very unhappy at the moment!

Cholitis is aggravated by red meat... It appears that's not in your diet at the moment... I would recommend seeing your doctor and also a nutritionist ASAP.... If you are eating this little (for however long it's been) could be what's making it worse.

Thanks - problem is I don't have a Dr at the moment as just moved to New Zealand... and I'm on a temp visa. However that is as little as I'm eating and it's getting me worried (I used to work in a restaurant and date a chef... I'm by no means a picky/small eater normally!). This has got worse over the period of about 6 months... not sure how long it takes for celiacs to develop. I keep worrying myself about Crohns and bowel cancer and allsorts.

You really can't risk not eating for your condition, whatever it may be. The end result will be more severe.

My sister has Celiac's and it's amazing all the items you wouldn't expect that contain gluten. Plus you have to be careful when eating out or cooking at home how things are prepared. IE if she wants french fries she has to make sure they are fried in a separate fryer than any breaded items, grills are cleaned after each preparation, etc. You can find some great info on Celiac's online and that might help you create an elimination diet until you can get tested. Eliminate almost everything on the "no-no" list and then gradually add items back to gauge your tolerance, you can use the notes section of the food diary to log symptoms.

Good luck, hope you find an answer soon! I know you must be miserable.

Thanks I'll do just that - little things you don't think about! Will see how it goes from tomorrow... :)
