Any of you taking whey protein? I am having a very hard time reaching my protein allowance. I am usually under, sometimes by very much. Of course I have no problem going over my carbs and sometimes I go over my fat intake but not by much. Which kind do you buy? What are the different uses other than just in shakes. I am trying to do the body for life program and changed my nutrition allowances to 40-40-20 but I am having a hard time reaching my protein allowance. Any of you have had good results eating this way?? Thanks!!! :flowerforyou:

I hear you. I am going to watch to see what people say. I am not a big meat eater, so I am always low on that also.0

good question. so far I have tried whey gourmet a couple flavors like strawberry and arctic cappicino this brand is low in carbs about 2g and protien count is 21g per serving it is sweetened with splenda which is good for a sweetener but I found it a little too swet for my taste.
I really like Kaizen brand ( chocolate) it too only has 2g of carbs and high in protien. At present I'm using Kaizen natural no sweetener ( vanilla icecream flavor) don't like it as much but it's okay. hope this helps:flowerforyou:0 -
I have some whey protein that I get called Whey Factor. It has 80 calories, and 15 g protein. I have made shakes with it but this has no sugar in it so if you like it sweeter you have to seeten it. I also make a protein bar out of it.
2 cupsOats
1/2 cupPeanut Butter,Smooth,W/Out Salt
1/3 cupWater (tap)
1/2 cupWhey,Acid,Dried or 1 scoop
I generally add some agava nectar since I buy the unsweetened variety. I also like to add dried coconut or other dried fruits and nuts. Even some mini chocolate chips are nice once in awhile. Just depends on what you are wanting.
I divide mine into 12 bars the recipe called for 6.
The calories will vary but with the single scoop of whey and dividing into 12 bars with nothing added to it. I get 142 calories, 4.5 g fat, 38.6 g sodium, 3.1 fiber, 1.4 sugar, and protein 5.9.
I use this as more of a base recipe to go from but we have also used in more traditional homemade granola too.0 -
You can also look for other kinds of protein. I love the Kashi GoLean cereals, greek yogurt (Fage Total 0% has 80 calories, 0 g fat, 6 g carbs and 13 g protein in 5.3 oz), or soy products such as soy chips. All of these are yummy alternatives!0

I bought some vanilla flavored designer whey brand..I love it! I've been making smoothies in the morning with them...
1 scoop of protein
1 banana
1 cup plain soy milk
dash of vanilla extract
2 equals
handful of ice
Blend for a 264 calorie...very filling breakfast. The smoothie ends up being like 3 cups! It's huge! It takes a while to drink and it is so "rich" tasting!!0 -
I have been using GNC Whey Isolate 28. It has been working great for giving me a real protein punch both in the morning and after a good workout. I have seen some solid gains in my lean muscle which of course is good for burning fat.
If you are just looking for a good supplement it is great and mixes well in water. I prefer the vanilla than anything else and it goes well with oatmeal.0 -
Designer Whey brand is very good I agree I thought they took it off the market. Good choice if you can find it and mixing it with soy is also best choice.0

Thank you so much for responding!!!! I got some very good ideas from everyone. I really need to go shopping for these alternatives. My pantry has a variety of healthy foods and snacks but most tend to be low in protein. The only time I get more protein in is when I eat meat and fish but I don't want to be eating it in every meal. For example yesterday I had egg beaters scrambled with tomatoes and mushrooms for breakfast, salmon fillet fwith a salad for lunch, and 1 cup of penne with 5oz of tuna for dinner. Some of my snacks had some protein in it and I STILL did not meet my goal. I am stressing today because my calorie allowance today is a little over 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :noway:0

I've posted it before, but I like the Jay Robb's protein powder, I buy the chocolate and vanilla, I mix the chocolate w/ milk and either instant coffee or peanut butter depending on my mood. The Vanilla gets mixed w/ either chai tea concentrate and milk or some pumpkin, spices and milk.
I like this brand because it doesn't have alot of added ingredients, it's sweeten w/ stevia. When mixed w/ 6 oz of milk instead of water, you get 31g per shake. I think it's 110 cal per scoop + cal for whatever milk you use.
