Is anyone from NC? Beaufort area? I have lived in CT my whole life but I am SERIOUSLY considering moving down there in a couple years. I have not been there before but know a lot of people that have and loved it. I suppose I would test it out for a little bit to make sure I liked it before going and building a house, etc, but just curious as to what people think of the area - whether you have visited or lived there, do live there, etc. And especially if anyone knows anything about the Beaufort area. Thanks for the input in advance!! :)

I'm from NC and have been to Beaufort several times, it seems to be a very nice area and not over developed like some coastal communities. I have not been there in several years, however.
  • Yeah! Well, I'm not from here, but I've lived here for the last three + years. Personally, I'm not a fan...Beaufort is awesome, but the summers here are so hot and muggy. I HATE that part. Also, I think the term "Southern Hospitality" does not apply, in particular, to the area where we are living. People also drive like maniacs out here too! (This could be, in part, because we're in a military community). I grew up in Indiana and I miss the middle-of-nowhere feeling. I miss having a real season of Autumn (there pretty much is no season of "Fall" here.)...I miss the hardwoods (pretty much everything is pine or palm trees out here)...I miss Steak N' Shake (hahaha...Seriously though...There is no Steak N' Shake for hours).

Beaufort is, by far, my favorite place out here though. It's gorgeous! We live about 45 minutes from there, and go as often as possible. Historic Beaufort is so beautiful, and I love walking along the boardwalk...ducking into little shops along the way. North Carolina, as whole though, is just not my cup of tea. That being said, however, I know LOTS of people that love it. They love the sun, the quick and constant beach access. I'm not much of a coastal person, but if you love sunshine, ocean, and warm weather...This really is the place for you!

I like the area. I lived with my marine husband in Jacksonville for a few years. One thing is for sure, between Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune, there is PLENTY of eye candy there. haha. Kayaking, seafood, boat shows, aquariums, lots of random "festivals" go on in the area in the warmer months and convenient to Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Those are the ups in my opinion. The biggest downs would be... maybe sometimes there isn't enough going on... and, of course, hurricanes.

There sure are some pretty girls there, though.

Never lived there but visited a few times - as a tourist I thought it was great, very pretty, clean, friendly people.

I made the move from north to south about 10 years ago. Upstate NY to the foothills of NC - you could not pay me to go back to New York. I'll always be a Yankee at heart but have no desire to live there again.

I live just outside Raleigh and work in Raleigh (country living/better pay in the city.) We moved here 8 years ago from Oklahoma and love it. Keep in mind that I lived in Oklahoma, and Kansas, before that ;) Seriously though, I really do like it out here. I had to get used to the humidity and my new allergies since things actually grow out here, but it's no big deal. I love having the ocean AND mountains close by.

I don't know anything about Beaufort, but have a friend who grew up there and can check into it more if you like.
