Olives!

So I like olives. Kalamata olives are my favorite, and I love black olive too. But they have soooo much fat in them! Each kalamata olive has 1g of fat! I put them in salads, I put them in omelets, and I'd even just eat them for a snack, but the fat really adds up. Are these healthy fats? Are they ok to have? I mean, I know fat is fat, but some fat is better than others, right? :ohwell:

Fat is not fat. There are good fats your body must have. The whole paranoia about fat came from people eating too much fat, and the realization that 1 gram of fat has more calories that 1 gram of protein or carbohydrates.

The fat in olives, is the fat that becomes olive oil when pressed out. It is good for you. Just remember moderation is what is needed. Don't go over your calorie budget while enjoying olives.

I think they must be, one almond has a gram of fat as well, and everyone is always telling me to eat almonds.

They have monounsaturated fats, which are thought to be good for you. The same type of fat that's in avocados. There actually is a "flat belly diet" or something that recommends eating things with MUFAs.

No fat is not fat! There is good fat and bad fat! Fat form an olive, almond, banana are all good for you. These are fats made by nature. Saturated and trans fats are NOT good for you!
