This is a common excuse for not eating better: "healthy food costs too much!"
Here's a great article to help us get over that idea.:flowerforyou:

Eh, that article makes it sound so easy.
It takes a lot of money to buy "healthy" groceries. It also takes longer in the kitchen to prepare the meals. It's a trade off -- fast, easy, unhealthy meals with a fatter, shorter life, or healthier meals that take a little longer and may cost a little more, but lead to a longer, more satisfying life.
It's a trade off that is worth it.
I suppose I must say.... I really can't tell to what extent "healthy" groceries cost more due to the rising cost of everything!:huh:0 -
To me healthier groceries are way cheaper.
Chicken breast and burger meat are much cheaper than buying the prepared fried frozen chicken or premade burgers that turn into hockey pucks.
And it only takes minutes to grill chicken or burgers or bake fish.
Fruits and veggies raw by the pound are pretty cheap too when bags of chips and things like that are going at a rate of over 3 bucks a bag.
And I cut soda out all together so thats something I dont even buy!
Everyone can do it, it just takes some consideration and when you compare to how much you WERE spending on all that processing and packaging on the prepared foods its def cheaper.
AND if you watch your serving sizes now, you find that you still have more servings after cooking your food.0 -

I completely agree. Healthy for us is WAY cheaper. There was a debate on here about this a month or so ago that got way out of hand. The thing is it totally depends on what "unhealthy" foods you eat. If you live off of dry macaroni then ya, switching to healthy is going to be pricey. But if you're buying frozen pizza's for dinner at 8.99 a pop and bags of dortios at 2.99 well, then going healthy won't be as expensive as you think once you learn the tricks. YES, eating healthy foods will require more preparation time but I really LIKE preparing food so that's ok with me.0 -

I was about ready to say that after the last time this was brought up that we need to get ready to "DUCK!"

also try to type "grochery game" into your computer's search engine. this will bring you to a site where, based on your area, you can look up coupons for local grochers and possibly get things FREE to very very cheap that you might miss if you aren't an avid coupon clipper!!! try it out. I'm in Minneapolis and its fantastic here!0
