Defeating the Office Butt

I've been using MFP for a while, but this is my first time posting. Since I have an office job, where sitting and typing is the most exercise I would normally do, I've been trying to come up with inventive activities during the day to burn some extra calories here and there - walking the halls and around the building, climbing stairs, etc. What I've found more difficult is keeping up with logging my exercise and food diary. Guess when I have free time I'd rather be doing something else - so I need some extra motivation.
I'm also looking for some creative, satisfying recipes for lunch and snacks and to find time-efficient workouts that help me stay fit and feel good that I can do after work.
What are you doing to stay motivated and mix things up?

put foil down and sprayed it with no calories cooking spray cut a medium yukon gold baked potato with skin, added six carrot sticks and six celery sticks and sprinkled some garlic powder and black pepper on it and wrapped it up in a pouch. baked it in a 375 degree oven for 40 minutes. it was so yummy. i had one the other day too but added 2 table spoons of arriba salsa to the pouch. excellent!
my boyfriend took a packet that was already cooked for lunch along with a baken chicken breast that i had baked in the oven that i basted with some fat free dijon mustard and had wrapped in the foil. he said it was so good. he left the chicken in the foil until he got ready to heat it up. it stayed really juicy. are you allowed to switch your office chair with an exercise ball? if you are you could do that. just the sitting will help strenghten your core muscles. maybe you could find some coworkers who are also trying to loose and go walk around the outside of your building during a break.0 -
I just recenlty started with MFP also, I too have an office job where I sit all day. I know alot of people here in my office were feeling drained and packing on unwanted pounds over this winter season, so me and my bestfriend who works in my office decided to start a wellness program. Since Zumba is the new hot thing we purchased the DVD's and on Tuesdays and thursday we stay after work and throw in the dvd's and have fun with about 25 other ladies within our building. Maybe you can start something with your office. I was amazed at the turn out we had and the positive comments everyone has. Try it!!0

I also work in an office, sitting all day... I use my FitDeck cards at various points through the day. Today I did a couple of cards every couple of hours. I also have the luxury of being able to shut my door to my office so getting on the ground and doing a little pilates is my little secret.

LOL @ office butt. BTW Subway is the best recipe for lunch I have.
Good luck on your journey.0 -
I'm new to MFP too and I know exactly what you mean about the office butt. I'm struggling with the same situation.
I try to take the stairs instead of the elevator as much as possible and walk around during my one hour lunch break. I definitely need to find a way to bring more physical activity into my life.
I agree that subway works well, all the calories are posted and the Veggie Delight is delicious. Also baby carrots with fat-free ranch mixed with a touch of tobasco. and lots of blueberries. Non-fat greek yogurt is the best too:)0 -
Thanks for the recipe! I'll have to give it a try. : )0

That is great! Good idea. I failed to mention that my office is logging stair reps together - everyone has daily goals and we log it on a sheet as we come in and out of the office. It helps me stay motivated.
I've never tried Zumba - maybe I'll have to check it out.0 -

I like hummus and carrots too - I always feel satisfied. Good luck - MFP has really helped me a lot.0 -
I too have a job in an office and take the stairs as often as I can. After logging my food, I spend time reading the messages posted especially the success stories - I find I don't even think of food whilst doing this.0
