I'm starting to look at my sodium intake and it's very very high!

What are some foods and snacks that contain little to no sodium that won't derail my efforts? I drink a lot of water - 8 to 10 glasses a day usually so would more water help "flush" out the sodium as well?

I love the Kashi snack bars. They are really low in sodium. The peanut peanut butter one only has 85g of sodium. Fruits and veggies. An apple and a low sodium string cheese is a great snack. Almonds are high in Omega 3 fats and low in sodium.

For snack eat fruit. I love bananas, clemintines and mangos right now. i also eat 100 cal packs of natural nuts. I also like greek yogurt Brown cow only has 65mg of sodium and is high in protein

for meals try to avoied canned products unless thay say low sodium. Don't eat frozen meals often. and fast food is crazy high in sodium.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
  • Stay away from the chips, as there content is very high in sodium.
I would try melba toast, the jello light , there is actually out thre low sodium pretzels which usually contains 1/2 the sodium then regular pretzels.

Also if you prepare your own dinner, you can use Mrs. Dash seasoning for salt alternative.

    Good luck, hope that help!!!

If you are eating mostly fresh foods, your sodium intake will be just fine. Some things that bring the sodium up are lunch meat, frozen meals, canned soup, items that are pre-packaged and seasoned (rice, mac&cheese), non-water beverages like sports drinks, and even some breads. As long as your diet consists of fresh fruit, vegetables, unprocessed lean meat, raw unsalted legumes, dairy, and whole grains your sodium levels will be low.

    Anything unsalted.

Roasted peanuts, no salt; A lot of the nature valley crunchy granola bars are also relatively low in sodium too.

High blood pressure runs in my family, so we all watch our sodium. The biggest thing that I've noticed helps reduce it is not cooking with salt. I load up on extra herbs to give things flavor, and I stay away from processed lunch meats. One tsp of table salt is 2000mg of sodium alone! So when I'm cooking, I usually ditch the salt completely, or keep it to a pinch.

You'll notice a difference after a week or two of going low sodium. I believe that sodium makes you retain more water (could be a myth, but it's how I feel), and if you're drinking 8-10 glasses a day, you'll definately feel a difference in your body with low sodium diet.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Avoid processed foods and you will be fine.
