Should I look at goals as size or weight?

I'm having a huge mental struggle here. Do I continue obsessing over weight goals and dates set for them, or should I be more concerned about when I want to have dropped a size?

I wish there were an inches lost ticker. Or a sizes lost one.

agreed I would actually focus on your BMI you want to be healthy, BMI is what really matters!

Consider this. Measure your success not just by a smaller number on the scale, or a smaller size in jeans- also take into account a new respect for your body- increased endurance, stronger willpower, and a really great understanding of how to feed your body the right way.

Sometimes I think we get caught up in the external indicators of success, and forget to focus on the internal ones.

Just food for thought. Keep up the good work!!! :)
  • Just worry about the inches. I've lost quite a few inches but I've hardly lost any weight at all. I think this is pretty common, especially for women. The pounds just don't seem to come off. It can get really frustrating and wear you down. If you are losing inches, just track that. I think it's way more fulfilling to see yourself fitting into smaller clothes anyway!

Measure by How you feel and how those jeans fit. The scale can be a downer. Think positive, and when a friend says, you look great! thats all the scale you'll need.

that's a tough one for me. there have been times when i've gone down a size after losing 8 lbs, but there are other times when i i can't get down a size until i've lost over 20 lbs. sizes vary form brand to brand, i generally try to stick to weight goals. though i like to keep track of inches also so i have an overall idea of what's happening week to week. some weeks i lose inches but no weight, other weeks i lose weight but no inches. like to see progress in at least 1 category.

If it's not obvious with my experimentation yet, I'm obviously not caring about weight loss at this point. I'm more concerned with muscle strength and mass, with fat loss. So, I'd say size matters more than weight... And I suppose that applies to more topics other than just weight loss. Heh.

    hahaha nice.

What can I say? Im a girl, I wanna be able to fit into some weird mold Ive made up for myself.

I feel like I need to make a thunder thighs support group. I feel like no matter how hard I work, no matter what size I get down to, no matter how much weight I lose....I'll still have thunder thighs & huge calves. boooo

Be glad it's your bottom half that's bigger. At least that's a look that is appreciated and you can actually buy clothes for. I carry all of my weight from my hips up. Broad shoulders and all. No matter how much I lose, I still manage to look like a linebacker. At least that's what I see. I can wear a size 2 or 4 jean and still need a large top - and it sure isn't "the girls" taking up the space.
Most of us will never have a super-model body, we can only do the best with what we have and focus on our best parts.
At almost 50 years old, I'm still working on that. Please don't spend as many years as I have hating a body that is fine just the way God designed it.

Thanks! Im really trying to improve my outlook on my lower half. I just want so badly to look head-turning good in knee high boots and skirts that sometimes I forget my bf likes me just fine now and will like me just fine no matter how I look later

Remember, you've already been turning his head. The boots and skirt are just going to be icing on the cake, lol.

    Very true.
I already told him if I can make myself feel better about my legs and reach my goal weight Im gonna spend a whole summer in short-shorts, skirts, and long socks or fishnets.

    He said "I win"

I try and do both lol

I want to lose a certain amount of weight (not by any time in particular) and I want to be a certain size when at that weight (so need to tone tone tone :) )

One of my biggest problems is that I have VERY muscular thighs, calves, and arms.

I want them smaller and Im afraid Im gaining muscle under the fat and when I get down to my goals Ill be this muscular mass of short chick. =\
