Best Whey Protien?

A few days ago I decided to start using Whey Protien. I'm not getting near enough protein in and its a pretty good source. I'm only using one scoop a day, because I don't want to get bulky. I'm using the Jillian Micheals Natural Whey Protien- the chocolate. I'm wondering if there is one better(less cals, more protein) per scoop? Also how many scoops you use in a day and your results while using it? Would really appreciate any comments!!

    have you tried ricotta. it is a soft fresh cheese made by curtailing the why proteins. it bakes a good protein base for a smoothie, or spread it on your morning toast, or you could use it to cut the fat of aged cheeses in a sauce. most protein powders are really hard on the GI tract, so I don't touch them.

    I don't use whey protein (sorry) but I do use the Special K Protein Drink Mixes. It only has 5g of protein plus 5g of fiber and 30 calories, and at least it helps add to your daily water intake! I like the different flavors and they are great! :)

    I"ve been using one called Gold Standard. Each scoop has 24 g of protein with 120 calories. It does have more calories than JM, but it has almost 10 more g of protein. You can mix with water or milk. I like it better with soy milk, but it's not too bad with just water either. It's pretty easy to mix and the texture isn't grainy like some protein powders. I have double rich chocolate and vanilla ice cream and both are really yummy!! Sometimes I'll add a banana or berries if I'm having it for a meal replacement. There are a lot more flavors, but I haven't had the chance to try them yet. I buy mine from Amazon and it gets some pretty good reviews on there too. Just my two cents. :)

    I'd like some input on this too! I started using the Jillian Michaels powder this week and it seems to be okay, other than it's pricey at $10 for only 14 oz. I would like to know if anyone else has found one that they really like the flavor of without having to add any other ingredients to it! I have been making this with one scoop and 8 oz. of 1% milk!

    you won't get bulky

    i like weider chocolate 90% protein powder. i use my magic bullet to mix it with coffee for a "mocha latte" drink that's super yummy
  • I like Syntha-6 by BSN. It isn't all Whey though. It is a compound of Whey and Casein's. Basically it is time released so to speak.
    Your body breaks down whey fast, but the caseins take time for your body to process.

    Syntha 6 is 22grams of protein per scoop and 200 calories.

    It taste good mixed with just water, but it taste great with milk!

    Muscle milk is another good option

    For Whey Protien, I use Six Star Muscle vanilla whey protien. You can buy a 2 lb jug at Walmart for 17$.

    1 scoop equals= 150 cal. 9g carbs 2g of fat 26g protien and 70 mg of sodium

    I usually make a shake for two and split the ingredients in half with my wife, but I use 1% or fat free milk, a banana and a tbs of creamy peanut butter, blend, then and ice and blend again. For an 8 oz glass of this shake, it is 235 calories, and 28-35 grams of protien, ends up being enough to fill me till lunch time usually.

    Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. Rocky Road flavor currently, and it doesn't suit me well. The chocolate is my preferred.

    Like has been said, you won't bulk from protein. One, you're a woman. Women can't "bulk" like guys can, they don't have the hormones. Two, even if you were a guy, you'd have to do weight exercises. And HEAVY ones too. Protein alone will not bulk you up. Where did you get that idea?

    Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein (strawberry flavor) is what I started using this week. A 5 pound tub at GNC runs about $40 at least at mine. 110 calories per scoop, 2g of carbs, 24g protein. All in all a pretty good source of protein. It mixes well with water, milk, or smoothies/shakes.

    Another big fan of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey (Whey Protein Isolates) here. Each scoop has 24g protein and 5.5g BCAA's at 120 calories. A lot of good tasting flavors. I really like their cookies and cream.

    If I really want to splurge, I'll cycle in Optimum Nutrition Platinum Hydro Whey (Hydrolyzed Whey Protein for supposed faster absorption). Each scoop has 30g protein and 8.8g BCAA's at 140 calories.

    But my all time fave is Cellucor Isopro Ultra-Lean Isolated Whey Protein. Each scoop has 26g protein at 120 calories. Great tasting and mixes really well - hardly any clumps. But this is a premium brand that is ultra pricey.

    Best value is the 10lb box for about $68 from AllStarHealth.com or Bodybuilding.com

    Protein will not bulk you up! You have to lift heavy, heavy and eat MUCHO calories to bulk! If you eat at a calorie deficit, you can't bulk! The protein will help you retain and build lean muscle.

    Edit to add:
    some protein powders don't taste very good on their own and you have to mix them with milk to make them taste decent. Scivation Whey tastes really good just mixed with water. And I add the powder in my oatmeal and yogurt to make everything taste like chocolate and add extra protein to my meal.

    Use a scoop post-workout and anytime you feel that your meal or day is low in protein.

    Is it really preferred to do powder protein or protein drinks? I'm a vegetarian, so it's even harder for me to get protein in my diet. But I make smoothies with Fage and have egss and tofu and beans and cheeses... isn't food in the morning or for a snack better than a protein drink? No judgment, just curious!

    +1 for Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% Whey. I used this for years until I switch to a different shake recently. Once I finish my current tub I am going back to Gold Standard! It tastes that much better.

    It's what's called 'Whey Isolate', and that means that it has very little carbs and very little fat. You can add dextrose to the mix if that's what your workout programme requires but the choice is left in your hands.

    I've used sugary protein shakes before and they're just too high in calories. At least with the isolate I can have a shake with 25g of Dextrose (type of sugar) right after my workout then another shake with no dextrose as my post-post-workout shake.

    If you're not vegan then whey protein shakes are ok. I prefer the powder because it's a lot cheaper. Here in Oz a pre-made shake will cost $5 whereas a tub would cost $60 yet have way more than 12 shakes in it.

    I only use shakes post workout for quick absorption. I prefer to get the rest of my protein from foods. Mushrooms and lentils have lots of protein. Non-vegans can have eggs too which I, as a meat eater, use for protein too.

    Yes, it's better to eat foods. However, post workout, you want a FAST DIGESTING protein for quick absorption as emurano said. Whey protein is the fastest digesting protein source! That's why you see so many people using it.
