Why is it when you record strength training no calories are burned? Doesn't make sense. Can someone please explain?

I always enter it under Cardio to get the calories added.
What is your opinion on how many calories weight lifting burns in say 60 minutes?
MFP only gives 234 and my boss(also ex personal trainer) says to allow 230 calories for every half hour. This seems excessive to me- so I really am not sure how to calculate my weight training days.0 -
Thanks...that makes it much easier than putting in every exercise and not have it calculate. : )0

It really just depends on the nature of your weight lifting. When I do super or tri sets with lots of compound lifts and don't rest, I have lost 500 calories in 45 minutes before. But, if I just do low rep lifting with longer breaks and isolated muscle groups where I never get an elevated heart rate for an extended period of time, I have barely lost 100 in 30 minutes.
It also depends on your size and fitness level, something MFP does not account for.0 -
Best bet is to go get a heart rate monitor and wear while Strength training, to get accurate ( or at least closest as possible ) calorie burn.0
