Not losing at all...

Hey all,

I'm in a bit of a predicament with regards to my exercise regime. Right now I'm doing martial arts for about an hour and a half twice a week, and I do a little bit of Wii Fit here and there - once, maybe twice. The problem is that right now I'm living in a single room and there is literally no place to keep exercise equipment, not so much as a yoga mat, and I don't own a car to make the commute to a gym. (I'm also moving in 3 months, so the money for a membership isn't there even if I had a way to get there.) There's so much snow on the ground right now that it's not safe to go for a walk most days, much less try jogging. I'm talking 2 feet of snow on the unplowed sidewalks - 6 or more on the lawn. We are not a pedestrian-friendly town.

I work from home most days and it's a desk job where I'm tied to my phone - way more sedentary than I'd like. I know that I haven't been able to exercise as much as I would in summer, so I've been carefully eating only my 1200 calories a day, sometimes 1300 or 1400, and eating back most if not all of my exercise calories when I am out. However, I've yet to see more than the slightest budge in measurements or weight. Since starting this on January 1st, I've lost only 2 pounds.

I knew about starvation mode already, but I hardly EVER go out and I'm sitting all day so I may be the type of person that the "1200 cal minimum" really applies to...nonetheless I've experimented with 1350 and seen no change.

What am I doing wrong...?

    checkout www.bodyrock.tv

Edit, I missed the part about not enough room for an exercise mat. I still think you will find some exercises that will work in your space like push ups, squats, and lunges. BodyRock is in your price range (free), and don't forget about the great outdoors.

Cut out the candy and high sugar drinks (orange juice). Eat more whole grains and veggies. No more white rice and bread too. Drink lots of water!
  • Do you have stairs in your building? If so you could try climbing those for 1/2 hour and/or maybe some jump rope? That will get your heart rate up! good luck.

Thanks Mike, I usually don't eat a lot of such things but I crashed hard yesterday and cheated for the first time in weeks. Really frustrated that nothing has been making a dent.

*edit* All right, I've been deluding myself I suppose, the last two weeks I've been caving. Sigh.

It's a lot easier to stick to a plan where I can cook the things I like but in moderation. x___x I don't know that I have the drive to cut rice out of my diet altogether. You think sugar is the problem?

yyzdni - I'll try that, thank you!

Steph - I'm afraid not. :( Half a flight of stairs is all I've got to work with.
  • DANCE DARLIN'!
Shake your junk when doing the dishes, making the bed, cleaning the bathroom.
Tap your feet when your on the phone.
    Get MOVIN'!
Hahaha try to add little movements into your daily routine... it's not huge but it helps a lot!
I live in a tiny little dorm room right now and don't like going to the gym to work out with the jacked lacrosse and football players (way too self conscious) and I don't have room for anything in here. So my friend and I get together for study sessions, blast the music every half hour or so and DANCE our troubles away :P
(The best part is, with the blinds drawn, no one can see us make fools of ourselves  )
Oh, and I'm no nutritionist or anything like that, but I have heard that people who fidget and do little movements during the day burn something like 300 cals more than people who sit still :)
