To keep my spaghetti meal low fat, I have it with Salsa Sauce.. and now I prefer salsa over homemade sauce...0

I like wheat thin spaghetti. Crushed tomatoes with italian seasoning. Saute zucchini, squash, onion, mushrooms. Add some turkey sausage. Delicious!0

Some would say start from scratch, but it is for tonight so, use one jar of Ragu, but spice it up with some italian seasoning, add your lean ground beef and what ever veggies you like such as onion and peppers. I always put a little splenda in to cut the acid. Then you can either use regular noodles or whole wheat ones. You can also serve with whole wheat bread toasted with some cheese or butter and garlic. Good luck!0

This one is easy - I use whole grain pasta. The sauce:
4 cans diced tomatoes (undrained)
1 small can tomato paste (6 oz?)
1 T dried basil
1 T dried oregano
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp chopped garlic
1 T olive oil
1 tsp cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients except vinegar in a pan on stove top. Heat over medium; just as it boils, reduce heat to low. Cook for 15-20 min stirring occasionally. Add vinegar and cook an additional 5 minutes.
If you like a little spice, you can also add 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper. Other additions are chopped onion, chopped peppers and/or mushrooms if you want more veggies in your diet for not a lot of additional calories. To really reduce calories, instead of pasta, cook a spaghetti squash & use the strands in it in place of the spaghetti noodles.0 -
I am someone who makes her own sauce from scratch and it cooks with my meatballs for 3 hrs or more. Here is something I found to be easy and tasty. I use whole wheat pasta whenever possible. You can adjust the qty of each ingredient according to yr taste. Hope you like it.
In a bowl mix:
2 - 28 oz cans of Roma (plum shaped) Tomatoes (any brand will be fine or use 3 lbs fresh) - cut in quarters
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tsp Frank's Red Hot Cayenne Sauce
1/2 tsp salt
minced garlic - 10 tsp from jar / or 10 cloves finely chopped
Italian seasonings - shake a few times
Aprrox 1 tablespoon of grated cheese & a pinch sugar
Pour above ingredients into a rectangle pyrex / glass baking dish and place in preheated 425 oven for 45 mins.
Have yr pasta water boiled and ready to add pasta just before sauce is ready.
Drain pasta - pour sauce directly over pasta and serve.0 -

8 oz turkey italian sausage, without casing
1 cup bell peppers
1 cup onion
8 oz mushrooms

Hmm...have not yet been able to get behind the wheat spaghetti but I may have to give this one a try.0 -
To MooseWizard - I felt the same way and stayed away from it for about 2 yrs - actually stayed away from any kind of pasta but that's another story - on a suggestion from an Aunt of mine I purchased Barilla and it was really good - check them out as I find they have come a long way as so many people are purchasing the whole wheat.0
