Training Tricks/Tips

Thought it might be interesting to see what people do to help them workout.
First, i lie to myself, as in just get in there, it doesn't matter if you slack off just show up. (knowing i'll turn it up once i get started)
- another is mind games. As in i'll count the amount of strides while running during interval training. Or do the math on how much i've completed by time/distance/etc..
Or imagine i'm competing with the person next to me...
What about you?

I'm a fan of using long division to distract myself on a long run. I'm horrible at it, so by the time I figure it out I've run quite a distance.
Also, if I start to hurt, I focus on a body part that does NOT hurt. As in: "This hill is burning up my calves, but oh man, my thumbs could go on for DAYS."
I also lie to myself just to get myself started.0 -

Long division? That is the funniest thing I have ever heard!
I just remind myself that I know I have already paid for my sprint triathlon, so I know I am going to be there, so I might as well train well so I don't look totally ridiculous trying it!0 -
i liked the focusing on the 'thumbs', good trick/tip0

I watch a lot of college basketball while I'm on the elliptical. I change my speed according to the tempo of the game. Faster on fast breaks, slow it down a little bit while plays are being set up....stuff like that.
I have also started lying to myself for motivationFor me most of the battle is just getting started.

I lie to myself about the time I have left. When I get on the elliptical I tell myself I can stop in 10 minutes. At the 10 minute mark, I push a 10 minute more. I do that again at 20 minutes. Once I get to 30 minutes, I remind myself that I am through all of my glycogen and sugar stores and at that point I am straight up burning fat. That will keep me motivated for a while longer.0

I create my circuits and HIIT training so that I'm never doing anything longer than 2 minutes. It keeps you from getting bored, and since you're switching up exercises and using different muscles, you can go much harder in that two minutes. In a 35 minute HIIT session, I burn about 550 calories, in 35 minutes of 7.5 MPH running I burn about 375 calories and I get really bored.0
