I have a heart rate monitor, but how will tracking my heart rate during a workout help figure out how many calories I burn??? I have a garmin running watch with heart rate monitor chest strap and tracked my heartrate during my last run, but what do I do now to figure out burn? Thanks!!!

It depends if your HRM has a calories burned feature?

Here's a webpage that has the calculations for you. Just plug in your numbers. Kind of a pain, but it's great if you don't have one of those HRMs that actually tells you calories burned.

Remember the order of operations in that equation or your results will be skewed!

If it has a chest strap it should do it for you. There must be a feature on the watch that will tell you the calorie burn. On my garmin when I upload my run it has the cals burned with all of the other info for the run. When I go to the "history" section on the watch itself it tells me the cals for each workout.

when I go for a run it will tell me the calories burned, but if I use it when I work out and do something other than running, it wont give me the calorie burn. i will check out the website. thanks everyone!!

what model Garmin do you have? Some don't actually use the HR to calculate the calories even though it has a HRM. The 305, for instance, uses distance & time to calculate the calories.

its the FR60, and i just did a little more exploring with it and it may actually have calories there after all. I will have to check when I do a non-run workout...

i just bought the FR60 last week... if you go into the history and find the workout.. you can scroll down and it will show you the calories burned ... also if you upload it to the training center on your computer, it shoudl show it there as well
