San Francisco Trip!
Hi friends!
The hubs and 7 y/o daughter and I are going to San Francisco for Spring Break. Aside from the usual "touristy" stuff, (i.e. Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, etc.) does anyone have any suggestions for must-see-or-do? None of us have ever been to California! We'll be there for a week.....
Thanks in advance!

Must see the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Buy tickets in advance. The zoo is great for her age too.
Get to the beach. Crissy Field beach is great with a view of the bay and GG bridge.0 -
I did the Alcaraz and Angel Island trip!!!!!
....well worth the extra money as Angel island was such an interesting place!!!
Very jealous....enjoy0 -
Im from San Francisco and one of my favorite places to check out is the Exploratorium, a great place for kids and adults to have fun. It also by the palace of fine arts a pretty structure left over and renovated from the worlds fair.
The great thing about San Francisco is it's an easy walking city so you could go to the Exploratorium, walk crissy field then grab food on Union street, Chestnut street or Lombard. If you are up for more of a walk you can even walk to the beginning of the wharf with Ghirardelli square.
If your looking for fun neighborhoods to visit check out lower Haight by golden gate park. It still has it sixties hippie vibe but with an updated urban feel. Also hayes valley located around Octavia and Hayes st is a neat laid back area. The mission is also a fun place to visit beginning at 17th and dolores st for the park. Bi rite creamery is located here with some authentic San Francisco flavor ice cream.
Have a great trip and have fun. Where ever you visit I hope you layer up for the all too unpredictable SF weather.0 -
I wouldn't recommend Alcatraz at this time of year. It's a long, COLD walk from the boat, and since there is so much else to do (I heartily second the Exploratorium...it's an awesome science museum where you get to play with everything!) you won't miss it. The California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is also extremely amazing and fun.
I love the Aquarium of the Bay, it's right on Pier 39, and you'll have a good old time as a tourist walking around that whole area You'll see street performers, etc. around there. Hopefully catch a look at the sea lions that chill at the end of the pier. If you want some clam chowder in a bread bowl (of course you do), I'd tell you Boudin's (round building @Fisherman's Wharf with a copper roof) is the best! Please don't give any to the seagulls though...:flowerforyou: Easy to get a cab around that area as well.
Listen to me now: I lived there for 3 years: This is important: Dress warmly. You think you're going to sunny California. You aren't. You are going to the coldest place on earth. I'd say the same if it were July....take a jacket! Take a scarf. I'm being serious...the humidity (fog) makes the cold seep into your bones. Unless you would like to own a cheesy fleece hoodie with "San Francisco" embroidered across it LOL0
