over on calories one day, stay under the next?

I, like many, do great during the week, then fall apart on the weekend! Saturday, I went over on my calories by about 1000, YIKES! Has anyone had any luck with making up for that by staying under the calories the day after they "cheated". I worked out extra today but want to undo my indulgence from yesterday. I was down to my lowest on Saturday and want to quickly get back to that. I know that we have to just go on and not worry about the past, but just wondered if this would work?

I wouldn't go under by 1000, or you'll feel like a zombie. Maybe a couple hundred. But in the grand scheme of things, you'd need about 3500 calories to gain one pound. And that would be 3500 over your maintenance calories, not your deficit-built-in allotted calories. So it's not that big of a deal, really. You did it, you (presumably!) enjoyed it, so now just move on.0

i would not so much go under calories as just but that day behind, move on and get back on track.0

That's what I do. If I went 1000 over one day, then the next day I try to leave about 400 workout calories remaining, and the day after I leave about 300 workout calories remaining. Then I go back to my usual diet.
Yesterday I was 450 calories over, so today I'm going to be about 535 calories under.
Its all about balance anyway.0 -
I kinda of go up and down one day to the next. Just make sure that you keep an eye out the next few days.0

I try to compensate for an overage as well, but if you are under by 100 or so each day throughout the week then you aren't over as much as you think you are, so try not to stress about it too much! Keep up your water intake and carry on! As long as it's the exception and not the rule, you'll do fine! :happy:0

and just remember, most of us have a 500 calorie deficit BUILT-IN, so if you are OVER by 500, you are really at a zero deficit. A total wash. No gain. No loss. (Some ppl have as much as 1000 calorie built-in deficit!) Its good to have an over day once in a while, IMO... afterall, this IS life, right? Enjoy it, but within reason
Get in a bit of extra exercise, drink plently of water and try to stay within your deficit when you do have 'over days'
Hope that helps!0 -
It's ok to have a cheat day a day or so a week- last Sunday, I was almost 3000 over my calories- yuck! Don't do that very often, but the next day, I exercised a lot and was 700 under my calories. Tried to eat well the rest of the week, and still lost 1.5 pounds, so if you just do that once in a while, don't fret too much about it!0
