I think it is a choice and you have to decide what you want... that's all. If you have a night of drinking try to keep it where you remember how much you drank and over the course of the week you can burn those extra calories if you choose. I don't think I have ever cut my eating to drink. But, I was in college too at some point -- and yeah, I drank a ton.. too much really. It's balance. But, for now - I don't really drink but, that's location related. I do drink at home and I try to keep it at a glass or two maybe a night or two out of a week. But, serving size is tricky... so you gotta consider that.

I think the main thing to remember is that it is over the course of time that you lose weight not from one night out or one binge it is over time..

    Have fun! :drinker:

you may be able too tell from the pictutre that i like a drink. I don't see anything wrong with it, you just have to be honest with yourself when you do. The reason so many "diets" fail is because of the impression of punishment, the "i can't have because it is too many calories" or whatever. When people make the desired target they can't go on not having things that they like just to maintain it, that just wont last.

I for one would not want to keep up something if i have had to give up things i enjoy for it, i think this lifestyle change is a balance as mentioned, and is about being honest with yourself, not punishing yourself.

(though i have cut down from my student days, getting old and all that  )

I do drink as well, probably 3 or so times per week, although it usually finds me on the weekends. I just budget the calories and drink them sometimes. For example, I love spin class and exersizing is the only way I could get through this diet because I'm generally hungry on 1200 per day. So all in all, do a good workout in the morning (I did spin today-845 cals~) and enjoy yourself later! Now I can have 2000 cals today and 300 can come from a few drinks! :)

Often when we get to dieting we forget that eating is more than just calories in and calories burned. Various alcoholic beverages, especially wine and beer are well-known disease preventing, life expectancy prolongers!

If you want to have a long life a glass of wine (or beer) a day, that's a fine idea...just keep your portions moderate!!! Instead of drinking that can of diet coke (filled with known cancer causing agents) drink your calories in a beer! Also beers are known to have vital nutrients like B vitamins (as a vegetarian this is really important to me!)

We all need to enjoy ourselves. I would not eat so that i could drink and not go over my cals, lets face it if a beer is 500 cals i drink 10 pints, i'd have to not eat for days lol.

Enjoy yourself, don't think of the cals :drinker:

I'll be honest, I don't drink anymore, I completely gave it up. But you don't HAVE to. Just throw in an extra workout that day and set limits. clearly 7 or 8 beers will be harmful to your diet. But 1 or 2 once in awhile? No problems there. Everything in moderation :drinker:
