Hi! I am a stay-at-home mom. I have two girls (10 and 5) which keep me very busy. I have thought about losing weight for a long time and have never done anything about it. My biggest problem is I have no motivation to workout. After the kids are in bed, I am tired and just want to sit on the couch. I am hoping to make a change!

We definately have the couch in common. I'm struggling day after day. Just started back on mfp Sat. This is a really good program. I find that by tracking my food, I don't overeat as bad as usual. And people r willing to support u and be there. With kids (2 & 7) it's really hard for me to find any time to myself except for at night (11pm-12am). I would way rather lay on the couch and watch my DVR. Starting tonight it's changing. I am gonna workout to one of my many dvds. I have 90 lbs to lose. So my biggest enemy is my couch. You can add me as a friend and together we'll defeat the COUCH:laugh:0

If you want something in the home that might even motivate you - I lashed out on the Xbox Kinect system. I've been using Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout and even just the Kinect Adventures game. The Adventures is actually more work and exercise than the BLUW program on moderate. You might even get the kids in on it and give them and you a bit of fun while you're exercises.
Not everyone's thing but it seems to be working for me - something at home in easy reach - and it's interactive so it knows how you're doing.
Good luck with whatever you do

"work out" with your kids if they are supportive... a great 'rainy day' idea ... set up a minature golf course in your home with some plastic cups, small balls, and yard sticks... between the setup, playtime, and clean up time.. you got a hour of low impact activity.
Also don't forget to include the time you spend blessing your home as activity... dusting, folding laundry, wiping down cabinents all count!
And the couch is not the enemy! It is what you are doing on that couch. Are you visiting with a friend? Helping your daughter with homework? Snuggling with your family? Mesmerized by the television? ... only one of them is a weapon of destruction. Remove the object that has your attention.
I know... i used to "reward" myself with TV time. When I decided to quit smoking 12 years ago, I knew I could not reward myself with food...so why was I rewarding myself with something that took the focus away from living my life. Is what I am watching a benefit to my living? Of course, I could find all sorts of words to validate why I was watching the tube, but one morning I just decided to turn on the radio instead. It was liberating.
Now, if I can find a way to get my computer tasks done without getting side tracked....0 -
Angie_04: I did really well posting my food the first day. Today was not a great day. It seems like a great tool. I just need to use it. Hopefully we can defeat the couch together. I love my DVR - it is way to easy to use! I hope you did better than I did today!
W0zzie: I think it is funny that you mentioned the Kinect. My husband has been after one of those since they came out. Not planning on getting one anytime soon. We have a Wii. I will just need to use that.
Propelar: Working out with the kids is a great suggestion. My 5 year old has enough energy for 20 people, she will get me moving. I just need to keep up with her. I do need to remove the object that has my attention - it is just to easy to get the kids to bed and sit down and watch a show.0 -
Hey coltsfan2 - being an IT pro for work and kids that are IT nuts too - we have had or do have just about the lot. Had a Wii but just never really got into it. For me the Kinect being full body and free of controllers is just ummm errr LOL can't explain it - bit scary actually LOL The big thing though too is it is watching you so like Biggest Loser is constantly giving you feedback on just about everything - right down to whether you are "performing" the exercises as they should be "form".
Downside - cost and setup
Having said all that I'm really trying to muster up the motivation to get out there in the real world and be active again too Actually went for a long walk down the beach the other day for the first time in ummmm errr - yeah that long LOL
Cheers all
