I would really like to invest in a heart rate monitor so I can accurately record how many calories I have burnt throughout the day. I generally use MFP's estimates from their database but i'm not sure these are always correct, so I would like my own device.

Can anyone recommend any ?? (i'm in the UK). I would just like something simple that will tell me my heart rate and, if possible, display the calories burnt.... or would i have to calculate calories burnt myself, regardless of what type of HRM I buy??

Any tips anyone may have will be gratefullly received. I don't want to part with any of my hard earned cash until I know its a good investment!!

Thanking you in anticipation of your advice.

    Hello,
Polar makes a great HRM and they are reasonably priced. About $60 which is (I think) about 37 pounds.
The basic model records Cals HR and can be used as a stop watch. I love mine and use it all the time.

I have a Polar FT4 and love it! It tracks your heart rate, calories burned, time you worked out, etc. It's great.

Polar make good heart rate monitors, they are easy to use and display heart rate and calories burnt (you put in your weight, height, age etc when you set it up so it can accurately calculate calories burnt)

I have the polar FT7 and love it, many people also recomend the Polar FT4 too, i know argos sell both of them if you want to look and compare them...i got my ft7 for a bit cheaper from ebay though :)

Hope you find one that suits you, good luck with your weight loss :)

I know what you mean - I was in this position last week.

I have just brought a Sigma PC 15 from Amazon. Less than £40

I had a bigger budget, but this had all the bells and whistles that i needed.

It is very easy to use, has cals burned etc and lots of timers should that be your thing.......

It also arrived 2 days after I ordered it!

    Good luck!!!

I have Polar FT7 which is billiant, really easy to use and shows you heart rate and calories burnt. Also stores your workouts so you can go back and see previous ones..

I bought mine on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polar-FT7F-Heart-Rate-Monitor/dp/B001U0OFDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299508374&sr=8-1

It's a lot of money but totally worth it, and I never exercise without it now!!

This one has a chest strap (included) but they are suppose to be more accurate if they have a chest strap rather than one that is just a watch....

    You can check this out

I have a MFP friend that also has the Polar FT7 and highly recommends it. I have one on the way now.

My decision came down to the FT7 and Timex T5G971 - but after a fair bit of consideration it "seems" there are a few complaints of inaccurate calorie counts by the Times & some reliability hassles. Polar said to be very accurate, comfortable and reliable. I guess I'll see - but I haven't really seen any complaints about it.

    Cheers
