Good Morning all!

I ran 6.5 miles this morning. I love my Sunday mornng runs. There are some nice trails in Austin and I love running on them at sunrise.

I could not take a long stride this morning because of tweaking my hamstring yesterday. So I took baby steps for 6.5 miles. I realized that figuratively that is what we do everyday with our workouts--take baby steps toward our goals. Whether it is Shel going for her 17th marathon, or all of you who have set a goal for a half marathon this fall, or for the beginners just trying to get started, it all starts with baby steps.

Last fall two days after my surgery, I walked one mile. Now I can run 10+. It all starts with one step.

Here's hoping everyone gets one step closer to their goals!!

Jim

    Good morning!

I'm alive. I'm awake. And I feel great!

It rained all night here so I ran 6.5 miles in 96% humidity this morning.

Surprisingly, the humidity was not a concern. I was more distracted by the wet pavement. I am a klutz. I survived the run without falling down!:drinker:

Am I the only klutz? Has anyone else ever fallen down while running?

    Enjoy the day:flowerforyou:
    -Kechie.

Btw, it is wonderful to see the men starting the post today. Awesome job Jim!

Hokay, so I don't know where to put this...late last night I was 288 calories over my 1200 for the day. So although I really didn't want to go...I drug me and my hubby both out the door and we ended up doing 3 1/2 miles!!!

I wanted to quit at one point and he said a firm "No quitting!" and took off with a fast jog, and laughed...grrr!!! So his push kept me moving and motivated! Errrrr...that and the lightening and light rain!!!

Thanks friends for keeping the talk going on the running and a spot to "check in." That really helps too!

Kechie - nope haven't fallen (yet) when running! My Nike track shoes sure help!

Great job everyone for keeping moving!!! YEY YOU!!!

Jim - it is so great to be able to monitor progress so easily with how many miles! That is so great that you pushed yourself so much. YEY!!!

    Hi Kechiemc,

yeah i thought yesterday was going to be a hard day to workout. my wife and i took our kids up to the northern part of the thumb in michigan to lake Huron. and with leaving early in the morning and not coming back till late that night. i thought for sure my workout day was shot. HAHAAHA was i wrong! between the sand dunes and the water, oh yes and a 5 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. my wife and i GOT OUR WORKOUT. I am still feeling it this morning. but i will take my baby steps down stairs to the gym and do my duty!

    have a great day everone.

It's a rest day for me, but you all are awesomely awesome!

Yesterday I ran 6+ miles in the am then walked 3 miles on my treadmill in the evening. I'm trying to break in some hiking boots for a trek I'm going on in 10 days. I did lots of hills to try to simulate the hike and my hind quarters are feelin' it! It feels great...:ohwell:

Today was a long run day for me. My husband and I went twelve miles this morning. It was cool and pleasant, and we went on the fitness trail again, which is a great place to run. I made it in 132 minutes (11 min. miles) so I was pretty happy about that and I have an extra 1300 calories to eat today!

Kechie, yes I've fallen before! Once last spring when I was running with my son's dog, she pulled on the leash at just the wrong time and I came down sideways on my foot and then fell. It hurt so bad that it kept me from running for a couple of months. So I'm a klutz too. It's funny that you should mention that today, because the only thing I don't like about the fitness trail is the squirrels that play chicken with me. So many times I almost step on them as they run in front of me. I have to suddenly alter my stride, or hop on one foot or something to keep from stepping on them. So I'm constantly worried about falling again.

    Happy Sunday everybody!:flowerforyou:

Hello! I ran 4.5 miles today..it was wonderful despite the fact that I woke up a tad bit late and ended up having to run in 80 degree weather. Hope everyone has a lovely sunday!

Hello my long lost friends. I guess I would say its a rest 2 weeks for me! UGH. I couldnt bring myself to buy new shoes on my trip to Germany....the dollar is BAD!!... and my husband is still over there so I have no one to watch the kids while I run.

He will be back on Thursday....so either I wait until then or hire a babysitter....might have to go with the babysitter option!.

You are all doing so great!! Keep it up!!

Yes, Kechie, I have fallen before too. Tweaked my foot nicely that time on a turn and went down like a ton of bricks. :blushing: :blushing: :blushing:

    Happy Running!

    Hey everyone - Happy Sunday!!

Rest day for me! and big pig out yesterday has me feeling might-y bloated and sluggish....

Glad to see everyone up and moving - and I just have to say that I think it is AMAZING that whether or not we are running we are still checking in and cheering on the others - MFP Runners Rock!

JD - way to go starting out the day with the first post AND a great run - after what you have been through medically/physically you are amazing my friend! Have you written your success story for the Success Stories Board? you should!!! there are so many people who need the inspiration!

Kechie - nice run in the ridiculous humidity! Love the south!!

Ali - welcome home!! hope all is well with your DH and his surgery and recovery are a success. If you have to, just take the kids on a nice long walk to start gearing back up for running...you will be back at it real soon!!

Terry - nice mileage!! you are so lucky to have a great running partner!! i am jealous!

Ahn - way to stay motivated even though you woke up late - I know for me that would have been a good excuse to skip it.

enjoy the rest of your day. see you tomorrow!!

I have not fallen yet, but I am sure my day is fast approaching - I am a huge klutz!!!
  • I was gonna do 6 miles today... then felt crappy so did nothing :frown:

I normally go to the gym burniong about 1000 cals and the a 2 mile run after which does another 400, but as i wan't going to the gym i thought i'd do 3 circults of my run instead of the normal 1 circuit.

Ohh well, tomorrow is a new day...
  • I do have a question tho... I'm new to this running lark, in my third week, what sort of speeds to youguys run at? I think i'm only doing 6 miles/hour at the mo

We all run at different speeds...run at a comfortable pace for you - 6mph is pretty quick for a newbie but I don't know your fitness level - you should be able to talk but not sing.
  • lol, i feel stupid enough running, theres no chance of singing lol

I was just wondering what a good speed would be.

I know 15 mph would be decent if i could maintaine it lol

I would like to get in to some triathlon stuff at some point, i've got a long way to go but its something i'm thinking about

I THINK...this is only me THINKING...But shouldn't heart rate count more importantly than speed?

If I could run a 8 minute mile, I'd be WORN OUT and absolutely above my fat burning zone.
If I run a10 minute mile my heart is happy and I'm always in the zone.

I can tell however I can absolutely run further, faster, and less calories are burned, which is GREAT health wise, but takes longer to "earn" my late night smore!
