I went overboard....

I went over yesterday by 700 calories, if not more. I really hate when there is food and I have to guess on the caloric intake. Plus my stomach was acting up yesterday for the longest time. Then when it finally settled I was hungry as all get out!

Today, we had a baby shower for a girl here at work. I had a small piece of lasagna, a piece of garlic bread and a salad. I passed on the cake however. I STILL feel guilty though! Does anyone else have these issues with food you have to guess on?

It is hard when you have to guess the amount of calories you eat. I usually just do the best I can. Don't feel bad about going overboard on your calories. Just get right back on your weight loss track today and keep going. :)

Whenever I have food that I have to guess on (homemade by someone else, food from a whole in the wall restaurant, etc.) I just look up whatever type of food it is and click on a few different selections and look at the calorie content, then choose one that's on the higher end of mid-range for that type of food. If for example, I could tell that it was a fattier choice (lots of extra oil or cheese on it) then I'd probably choose a higher calorie one. It's really all you can do....we all have to do it sometimes. Just feel good that you're logging it and watching your caloric intake, as opposed to most others at the party who had a large piece of lasagna, a piece of cake and then went home and had a full calorie dinner as well! :)

I don't feel guilty. Ever. With anything I do. I accept the fact that I do what I do because I can. I like the power.

That said, you can always work out just a bit more over the next few days to even out the extra caloric intake.

It is ok to pass on the food if you can or want to...or just have a taste or small piece of the food! You do not have to anything you do not want! If you have no idea what you just ate, you have to take an educated guess and move on! if you search MFP database I am sure you can get a good guestimate for the Lasagna you ate! A fiend of mine that is a triathlete sent me some good advice when I started this journey (this time)...do not feel guilty for wanting to take care of yourself!

Having said that...I also realize it is not the easiest thing in the world and I am only successful with this SOME of the time (better now that I log my food on MFP)!

The rest of the time...I try to plan the rest of my day around these extra calories! Feel free to take a look at my food journal...this past weekend is a great example of splurges for meals, but staying in my calorie count for the day!

    Hope this helps!

I hate not knowing the calorie content of food.

Restaurants are the worst. I found a meal to eat that was within a reasonable calorie limit, ordered it, and finished off the meal only to discover later, as I was entering the information, that I had ordered the dinner portion not the lunch portion, which was 500 calories more!

I have a lot of over days like that, but--like Phil--I don't spend much time feeling guilty about it. I've discovered that guilt is one of my biggest binge triggers. So I brush myself off and try to do better the next day. :)

Over the long haul, it's probably not a big deal to have a few days here and there that aren't perfect.

But trying to live life (or socialize) and still maintain your calorie limit is where it gets hard. I'm working on that right now. I try to plan ahead as much as possible if I'm going out to eat or going to a party. I research how much calories the food has and write down everything I intend to eat. This has helped me avoid overeating by a lot. It's still a struggle, but not as much. And I'm finding that having a limit actually makes it more enjoyable. I'm still eating great food and having a great time, but I'm not stuffing myself. :)

Thanks for the kind words. I think it also doesn't help that my stomach is acting up. It started Sunday morning at 4:30, went away, and now it's back. Maybe it's the food I ate and not being used to that much of it? All I know id this monring the scale said I gained 5 pounds overnight. I know that's not relaistic, but it still took me by surprise.
