Convo between my 4 y/o girls:

Actual conversation I heard between two 4 year old girls today:

Melissa: "Can I have this candy?"

Makayla: "No. Don't you know what calories are? They're things you have to wait until you get your belly smaller. Your belly is already kind of small."

Melissa: "You have baby fat."

Makayla: "I didn't have a baby!"

Conversation ends with anger on both sides. Candy is left on the floor.

Hilarious! But in a very sad kind of way.

Kids say the silliest things! Make sure they understand about the calorie stuff though you dont want them to develop some kind of ocd towards calories

Yes. It's obviously time to have a healthy conversation about eating right.

Agreed. Funny but sad. I have a 2yr old and a 4yr old and my 4yr old always stresses the importance of avoiding sugar and fast food to her baby sister. However, she couldn't tell me why it was important. We recently read The Berenstein Bears and No More Junk Food to clarify the topic for them. Now they back to their usual banters. ;)

    OMG LMAO..hahahah
    I know!!!!
I don't even want to mention the word calorie around my children. Unfortunately it has slipped...my son asked me for junk food at the grocery store the other day and I said no..and didn't elaborate. (He's 10) He always wants explanations so he just filled in with "Because it has too many calories?". I felt painted into a corner. I just told him it was just trash for his body ...blah..and that if he continued to eat trash his body will pay him back in kind lol. Just hate having to explain this to them though :(

Thanks. I will have to look for that book at the library.
This is actually the first I've heard them talk about this. If anything my girls are pretty healthy eaters all on their own! They LOVE anything fruit.
Honestly, I think Makayla was just grasping at anything she could think of to keep her candy for herself. LOL.

    lol :)
My children eat healthily...but I'm starting to get concerned that they will treat junk food like a fetish! Since my son is in elementary school he's exposed to *a lot* of junk food from his friends...I have to say no far too often for my liking but I see no other way.

that is really funny, but I wouldn't even know where to start to explain junk food to a kid. I guess I'll have to come to ya'll when i have them! lol

My 3.5 year old talks about calories. I have told him that we need calories, and that he burns most of his off (petite, half-Japanese, manic sweetheart that he is!). He thinks sugar is bad, but I tell him that it makes things taste nice, although we shouldn't have too much. Basically I just keep trying to rebalance whatever I've accidentally taught him

I always have to be so careful when I talk about food/fitness/weight around my kids- they hear everything. Luckily, they've heard some good things over the years too- and they're fairly active and healthy eaters. If I'm not careful though, they throw it right in my face!

This afternoon when I told them I was going to run after dinner she said "Good. If you run you will stop being fat and then your pants will stop mocking you" Apparently she overheard me complaining last night to my husband that my skinny jeans are sitting in my closet mocking me because I outgrew them almost immediately after buying them. Oops! :blushing:
