Standing vs sitting

Options
I had to stand on my train to work today, and to make myself feel a bit better I thought to myself that I was burning more calories standing than I would have done just sitting. I wondered just how many more calories I was burning by standing, and after a bit of internet searching the disappointing answer seems to be not that many, about 12-30 calories per hour depending on weight and gender:

The conclusion to draw from this is that it hardly seems worth standing just for burning extra calories, although the range of values given in this article does seem a bit low to me; I mean you are supporting your entire body weight. Anyone know any better?

It's a low cal burn, but it's good for you in lots of other ways. It promotes better circulation, helps strengthen your legs, and if you maintain proper posture it helps strengthen your core muscles, which makes you look better in general. For fitness and health, it's best to try to avoid sitting around too much. Get on your feet! :)
