Why only .5 lb?

Help! I only lost 1/2 lb this past week, and I was on target for my nutrition and fitness goals. What could be the problem?

Time of day, fluid retention, salty foods, you lost a bunch the week before - there could be lots of reasons. Be happy it's a loss, keep on doing the right things and it will show up on the scale at some point. I hope you didn't think it was going to be fast and easy.0

I agree with Mommasota....how fast do you think it took to gain .5?0

I felt the same way this week after losing 1.4 lbs. I worked so hard for it!! Don't worry about the number, think about the way you are feeling. Next week could be a bigger loss than you expect. (also, watch the sodium intake...that can cause you to retain water)0

Weigh yourself in the morning at the same time. This will help you to track changes better.
It's important to remember that body fluids adjust greatly throughout the day. My weight fluctuates a couple pounds.0 -
Don't forget your clothing weighs, so do your bowels, water retention, the food you ate before you weighed yourself maybe...all those things could be a factor, but at least its a loss. We won't lose the same every week nor will we lose every week. The point is we have to keep going! I didn't lose anything for 3 weeks..in fact gained 2 lbs and I was within my goals as well. Had to re lose it! But it does come off!0

I know it is now fast and easy. . But based on past experience, the first 2-3 weeks are the greastest losses. I did expect more at the beginning.0

Sodium?
Water intake? ( did you drink enough)
Also generally if you lost big the first week, your second week can be a much lower loss... you could have been reatining water... if it's near TOM then your weight could fluctuate as well..
Look over your journal from last week and see what kind of changes you can make, maybe swap out some foods for healtheir foods?0 -
Thanks for the positive feedback and encouragement. I will keep all of that in mind.0

Thanks. I do need to drink more water, but I hate plain water. I have to add a squeeze of lemon or orange. But, thanks for the tips.0

also if you are not eating enough fiber, eating enough heatlhy fats or drinking enough water it could be constipating you. that will put on the pounds and not you loose any, i found that out by personal experience. if you are drinking enough water are you peeing normally? if you are drinking the 64 ounces a day that this site is recommending do you realize that is 4 pounds? if you are retaining the water from that, that could be some of the reason you haven't lost more. are you exercising enough? if you are already athletic you might have to boost your routine a little to change your metabolism.0

Slow and steady wins the race. I know it can be discouraging at times when you were expecting big numbers and didn't get them. But a loss is still a loss. Congratulate yourself for losing some weight and sticking to your goals so well this week! It is a long journey at times, but the end results are so worth it! Stick to it & you will be amazed at what you can acheive. Also, try taking some measurements. Basing your level of success off just the scale will often leave you disappointed. I like to gauge my progress more on how my clothes are fitting, my energy levels, & my hip and waist measurements.
Really, you have been doing a great job, congratulations on the .5 a pound and hope to see another loss next week. Your cheering section is here through thick and thin :flowerforyou:0 -

Everyday I fill at 36oz plastic bottle of water with Water + 1 squeezed lemon and 4 packets of spenda and drink up! ... I don't like plain water either0
