Thermogenic products - Any good?

Has anyone tried any thermogenic products from GNC or elsewhere? Supposed to help with (among other things) targeting that last bit of 'middle section' that just isnt going away with diet and excercise (since you cant choose on your own where your weightloss comes from). Good sales pitch by the employee - all made sense at the time - but still not sure about it. Doctor said NOT to take it since it isnt FDA approved. Any opinions or alternatives?

I love Ripped Fuel. I take it about 30 min prior to workout. It helps keep the energy levels up and doesn't make me jittery.0

Tried them once - made me jittery and crabby as all get out. Recently saw a hype for cinnamon too. That didn't work either. I've had good luck with Apple Cider Vinegar. A couple of tablespoons mixed w/water before meals. I have GERD and I started using it because I saw it would provide relief and I didn't have to take the omiprizol (sp?). It worked great!!! And I lost weight. So I'm sticking to using that and hoping for double the benefit (again).0

I say stay away from them. I work for a nutrition company and I know that they are full of crap that you probably shouldn't be ingesting. Plus if you want a natural way of burning some extra cals have some espresso a few times a day. Same thing, probably doesn't give you fast results like the thermogenic but you'll be more active, you know because you'll be wired and burning more cals.0

Those things are dangerous. Listen to your doctor. Thermogenics work by raising your body's temperature, converting calories (hopefully the ones stored as fat) into heat energy. Essentially you're chemically inducing a fever. That's not good for you. Plus, because these things aren't FDA regulated you have no scientific studies to show long term side effects and no guarantee that what you take is a healthy dose or that the doses you take are consistently mixed. You could be getting 3x the drug with one pill that you get with the other. Read up on teens who died trying to make weight for wrestling and other sports that have weight categories - a lot of the deaths are associated with the use of thermogenics. Remember Phen-Phen? That was the weight loss miracle of its generation and it ended up killing people.
It's not worth it. If you've got a last little soft spot try seeing a good trainer who can mix up your work out and target the areas you want to tone.0 -
