Pls dont be disheartened. Don't look at the numbers look at how you feel. How your clothes feel on you. You said they fit better already and feel like they're falling off you? Surely thats more encouraging than listening to a HRM.
I didn't lose any weight with the shred, but then again my nutrition wasn't great. I did however lose 12.5inches!! I am now doing her 30day slimdown but also incorporating a lot more cardio as I know thats the best thing for fat loss!
The shred is amazing for toning though!

I wouldn't even worry too much about what the HRM is telling you. You admitted that you are getting smaller and more toned, and that your clothes are fitting much looser than before. Right there is your proof that you are losing fat. No need to feel disenchanted with your workouts! Just keep working out and eating right, and don't change a thing until you notice that the results aren't coming in!

This is one reason why I stopped wearing a heart rate monitor all together. I eat a good diet and workout daily...and people have been losing weight for years doing it without a HRM.
  • Try supreme 90 day fitness. You can get it at bed, bath and beyond for 20.00. I am on day 4 and have lost 6 pounds and 2 inches. I don't lose easy but this program will make you :)

Ok, good point. If you have boobs, where do you put the chest strap? Over the boobs or under them? Would that make a difference?

I wear it just underneath and it shouldn't be uncomfortable at all. I agree with others, there's must be something wrong with the calibration. I've done the Shred and I am still doing them on and off. Even if I really don't try too hard and relax on some of the circuits, I still burn about 135 without working too vigorously. I did Level 3 this morning and I burned about 191 and I used to burn 250+! I think you need to check your HRM again. Sorry to hear about it though, I know it can be discouraging when you're seeing a number you're not expecting to see..

Today will be Shred day 6 for me...

I'm mainly doing it for the toning aspect rather than the weight, because up to now I've just been doing cardio (treadmill / zumba). I also do some form of cardio afterwards for 20 minutes - I've just started Turbo Jam.

I'm not even going to do it continuously, because I will have a rest day plus another day off for my latin fitness clas.

I think as long as result is the same, body looks more toned & some weight loss... it's all good!

This whole thread is exactly why I don't think there can be a "rule" about eating back calories. If the OP really burns only 100 calories, but she's been logging the amount MFP gives her, the calorie deficit is gone.

Everything I log into MFP has come pretty close to my HRM...and I doubt if very seriously even on Level 1 if anyone is only burning 100 cals in the 27 minuts...jus with all the jumping jacks alone thats about 100 cals burned...LOL...if you have a chest strap, i agere with the poster who said make sure you have a baseline b4 you start...I get one everytime I put mines on...I know people say dont worry about the HRM...but I like to know if Im burning 400 vs 700 cals in a workout...I put in 59 minutes of circuit training and MFP gave me 18 cals more than my HRM...I would say its your HRM that is incorrectly reading!!! JMO!!!:glasses:

Under...right underneath the band of your bra.

That's good to know. The illustration in the package was for a man, with no boobs, so I couldn't tell where to place it. The instructions just said place the strap according to the illustration. I've been wearing my chest strap over my boobs. It will be interesting to see what kind of reading I get tonight at my zumba class

First, I think your HRM is WAY off. I did the entire 30 days and lost about 10 pounds. And inches. Plus I'm way stronger. And now I'm doing the 30 Day Slimdown and even doing Level one I still burn over 200 calories! So I definitely think it is your HRM.

I didn't buy a super expensive one. I bought a Timex one from Amazon and it was about $40. But it does have a chest strap which is essential. Make sure you have set up your HRM correctly and if it is still recording that I would take it back.

It wasn't the most expensive one on the market (Oregon Scientific).

I second making sure it is calibrated correctly... that burn doesn't sound right. My hrm is awesome once it starts behaving...but it is a bit hinky when my body is chilly...so it takes about 8 minutes to get the HR thing right...I will stop and take a manual check and not turn it on until it is doing it right...LOL...or I will wear it for a whie before I get started (it needs new batteries)

    Here's the facts kids:

#1 What we eat has a lot more calories than we think (we all learned that when we started logging!)

#2 Your workouts don't burn anywhere near the calories that we think (we learn this when we use a HR monitor)

Really makes you think about what you put in your mouth and what you spend your time doing, doesn't it?
