I just crashed and burned

Okay, so I'm home with a cold. And I know I snack when I'm bored. I'm sick, but not in bed - and bored.

Normally, I'd be OK. I'd have tons of healthy snacks around. But I celebrated my birthday last weekend. Today I found a leftover bag of M&Ms. A big one. Now it's gone. More than a thousand calories.

Loved the M&Ms, hate myself for not being able to resist them. But I have made myself log them all. Will make it up in the gym over the rest of the week. I will keep going, I just feel a little down right now.

M&Ms are my downfall. Whenever I go to the cinema, I eat 2/3 of one of those bags on my own. At least. Don't beat yourself up about it. You can't swear off M&Ms forever. You're still on the right track. Tomorrow's a new day. So long as you eat well and exercise most of the time, the odd slip up won't hurt you.

I've been there too. Its okay as long as you don't let it defeat you and quit altogether. We all slip up sometimes.

We've all been there, done that! Sometimes we just *need* that extra. Think of them as 'helping my recovery' calories. What's done is done - a new day & new start tomorrow! Get well soon xxx

ach.. I always do that when I have a cold, your bod really seems to need the extra cals. But summer's coming, no more colds, so it won't trip you up for at least another 6 months! I say forget about it! - it never happened :)

someone on here told me.....it's ok to run along side the wagon for a little while as long as you hop back on! I know you will do it.

We all have our vices and we have all fallen to them during our journey. What is going to make this journey different for you is that you are NOT going to let that 1 bag of M & M's throw you off track. You are going to continue to eat healthy; you are going to continue to exercise; you are going to continue to log your foods (even those dastardly M&Ms) and YOU will make progress forward. Try to stay focused and try to keep chocolate out of the house (that helps for me anyway!). Hope you are feeling better soon! OH< and a belated Happy Birthday!

There was a time when I would go to the cinema order a large tub of butter popcorn, a large coke and a big bag of peanut M&M's to throw in on top of my popcorn... the whole bag. Back then I used to go to the cinema on my own (just started college in a new city) because I didnt want anyone seeing me eat that much. Now I cant even bare to think how many calories were in that whole bundle...and that was after a whole day of eating other junk food!
However if I saw a bag of M&M's right now I would pounce on them but I would never go back to eating that big bundle of junk food....little by little. No matter how far we come we still have our weaknesses. Dont get yourself down over it. Just think of it as a little slip up. At least it wasnt 2 bags of M&M's! And you logged it all so it shows that you are owning up to it and you are ready to face the consequences....i.e. hitting the gym for that extra little bit longer. You're a winner in my eyes! Chin up! :)

Just before I started tracking my calories I had a day just like this. It was during the huge blizzard and I was actually at work (eye doctor's office) and since there was NOBODY there, I ended up eating like 20 pieces of chocolate that we keep in a little drawer with gum and stuff. I usually try to stay away from the candy, but that day I was up there like every 10 minutes with nothing to do but munch!!!

Now that I log stuff, I'm much more conscious of it, and I'm actually proud that you are logging them. Shows you are really trying to do the right thing! Everyone else is right, you'll do better tomorrow, don't get too upset about it, it was one slip!
  • Everyone does it at some point, just work extra hard this week :)
Next time if you're craving something sweet toss out those M&M's and get a one-serving bag of sweedish fish instead! They are also fat-free so it is a win-win!
  • Just forget about it.....Cookies are my downfall.!!! Don't worry, tomorrow is a new day, you can burn off those 1000 calories with 1 or 2 good days in the gym.... It will be like it never happened. We all have bad days..... It doesn't mean you are a bad person.... Hang in there, you are doing great!!!! Just try to make healthy choices from now on, but ALL of us slip up every now and then. Just a few days ago I ate 4 sugar cookes from Walmart that were 140 calories a piece...... 560 calories for 4 little cookies!!!! And something like 80 grams of Sugar!!! So don't worry.... JUst think about tomorrow. No crash and burn, just a little trip and stumble....

I've recently started logging my cheats. Sometimes I'm surprised at how little I actually went over. I've been keeping track of it and doing a crazy amount of exercise to make it up. I do spread it over a few days though cuz I don't want to be completely exhausted.

You didn't crash and burn; you stumbled. Keep calm and carry on.:)

When you have something like that sitting around and you can't bring yourself to throw it out altogether, maybe pre-bag it into smaller portion sizes - whatever you think is appropriate for a little splurge. This way you can take one serving / baggie and step away from the big bag of candy / "larger evil" with your treats. I find that it's easier to overindulge when you don't have a "serving size" clearly defined.

I agree that what's done is done, BUT I also believe that since you are aware of your weaknesses, you need to prepare yourself to face them in the future. Obviously, you can't avoid all circumstances, but every little bit helps.

First recover from your cold, then hop back on the wagon and hit the gym to work off the extra calories. :)

    All will be good.:flowerforyou:

You will be fine. Just use it as motivation to kick butt going forward.
  • I had one of those days this last weekend. I had a terrible day at work and on the way home I ordered a chimichanga to somehow ease the pain. I love those things because of all of the stuff they put on it. I didn't even eat half of it but boy did I beat myself up over it. I was sure that I was going to spiral out of control but today is day 3 of being back on the wagon again. One day at a time!
