What is everyone giving up for lent?
I'm giving up chocolate, crisps (chips if you're American), cake, biscuits, cheesecake and icecream.

I am giving up my favorite drink of the day...French Vanilla Flavored coffee with French Vanilla Creme. I always overdose on the cream and know that is where many hidden unrecorded calories are.  :yawn:0

NOoooo!!!!! Don't give up! you can do it!!! Or do you mean in the sense that it's no longer a diet, but a lifestyle?!?!0 -

I am giving up takeaway/fast food! Try to do chocolate also )0

A little-known fact. You get Sundays off from "fasting" over Lent. It's 46 days in total, but you only fast for 40 of them.0

Thinking about giving up my scale!
Giving up office gossip and picking up a small group Bible study.0 -

Haha! I'm Lutheran, too...I still give something up for "Lent" every year, though. Last year it was alcohol...this year I'm keeping the alcohol and ditching the scale. Seems much more sensible. :drinker:0 -

I'm giving up my Sunday mornings, to attend church. I haven't been good at all about going, so I'm making a Religious lifestyle change along with my weight loss. I hope to make this a permanent thing, not just for Lent.0

I'm giving up on saying negative things about people (mainly one or two co-workers I dislike), processed foods, and internet surfing past 11pm (usually keeps me up until 12:30-2 in the morning).0

This may be a stupid question...But....what is Lent? Sorry, I really don't know. Thanks0

It's a period of sacrifice and preparation for Easter. It's basically a time for Catholics, or other denominations to reflect on their lives and how they can be Christ-like. The 40 days represent the time Christ spent in the desert, leading up to his death and resurrection.
Caholics spend this time praying, repenting (reflecting on their bad-doings, and fixing them) and trying to be closer to God. When we "give up" something for Lent, it's our way of sacrificing for Him.
Definitely not a stupid question!0 -
OH MAN gave up chocolate for lent. I am by no definition religous but I think it's a great opportunity to give up something I battle with daily. It can't hurt right??? Luckily, my awesome Jewish coworker/friend is giving up caffiene. So, I'm not in this alone!!!0
-
Not religious so I'm not giving anything up. I stopped eating junk when I started dieting, I quit smoking with the new year and I don't drink soda. Good luck to everyone tho!0

I JUST gave up Facebook this morning. It'll be so hard cause I usually surf it on my phone before class so I uninstalled the app. My roommate thinks I'm crazy cause she's a facebook addict!0

This is my goal as well. I will start attending either Sunday mornings or Saturday nights. I'm going to have to research the churches around my house.0 -
As a few others have said...I am also giving up weighing myself, Somebody mentioned that you don't have to do this on Sundays but I was brought up that Sundays are included, Good luck to you all.0

I'm not Catholic but I always give up something for Lent so I can dedicate that time in prayer. This year it's chocolate...and today I made brownies and I don't even get to have one. It's a struggle...but His struggle far outweighs mine.0
