something I did find funny on that page: A little ways down to the left of the page there are exercise ads. One of them says "Toning Buttocks Exercise".
Just thought it was funny because the article is about "toning" not being real.
This is a great article though.
I want to be a lean, mean fat burning machine!0 -
Or as I tell my husband I want a hot bod! :happy:0

Why are you all so hung up on words?
That article had some good points but had an obvious and bias-based objective. Tone is understood as different from what? Strengthening muscle? No. Tone is a description used vis-a-vis Building Muscle, which means increasing the size of the muscle. If you are focusing on muscle tone, you are focusing on the strength and endurance of the muscle fibers that you do have, without the goal of increasing the size of your muscle. The author seems to take issue with the idea that women "tone" muscle while men "build" muscle, while in the same article recognizing that there is both sociological and biological support for that position.
Nonetheless, men, as often as women, have different goals to tone or build different muscles, and you can spot tone or spot build different muscle groups. If you want bigger calves, you may want to tailor your routine to increase the size of your calf muscles, while at the same time you may not want to increase the size of your back, so you would focus on toning your back (making the muscles stronger and increasing their endurance) without increasing the size of the muscles.0 -
Yep! I hate the word because women over use the muscle. Like muscle is a man's word.0
